Craig T (kr) wrote: The screenplay and direction are so bad, very little of the novel's subtle indictment of American war culture and hero worship survives the onslaught. There is an affecting tale behind Alwyn's eyes, but unfortunately it's Lee's eyes that made this picture. A real disappointment.

Low for the plot and acting of yet another "innovative" British film and low for the 3D which with few exceptions, has yet to truly impress me.I am pleased to report that it surpassed them on both counts. Yes it is dross, the plot is thin and the acting is a shade better than a drama school improv session but the 3D was comfortable though not as striking as you might expect. But it was solid and reliable and didn't try to be anything more than it was.The same can be said for the film. It was what it was and it did it well. Entertaining though not always for the right reasons and clearly taking a lot from the Step Up franchise, this is well worth a watch.

So in the first few minutes figured out that it was a new Batman who is mentored by Bruce Wayne in a futuristic Gotham City. While I didn't love the idea of this, it was kinda cool to see something new being done with the character. For pretty much the entire movie I did find it entertaining, but I couldn't stop thinking that it was pretty much The Jetsons meets Batman. And as much as I love Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, and even Cesar Romero as the Joker, my favorite Joker is Mark Hamill, and his performance easily the best part of this movie, and would be what would bring me back if I were to rewatch it.

Bradley F (au) wrote: Remember when I talked about the simplicity of Dracula? Well "Love Story" is just that.. a simple love story. There is no villain, no plot twists and no real moral here. In this film, it's just two people living their lives together. Oliver Barrett (Ryan O'Neal) meets and falls in love with Jennifer Cavilleri (Ali McGraw) a music student who is not rich like he is. Though coming from different worlds, they have a chemistry and a love they both cannot deny. And really.. that's all you need. One of the greatest things about this movie is how simple and yet wonderful it is. Love Story is definitely a movie based on emotion and relatable situations. This couple, though sometimes so opposite and other times so alike, find comfort in each other when the obstacles of their own lives come crashing down upon them. A lot of people seem to hate on this movie. I have 2 theories why. Firstly, it seems like another tearjerker chick flick. Well, I thought about and came to a disagreement with this. It seemed like other films were mimicking Love Story, the closest that comes to mind is "A Walk To Remember". But Love Story is far different and far better than that film for one major reason: the maturity factor. In "A Walk To Remember" Landon Carter pretty much acts like an immature teenager who just doesn't want to feel anything For Jamie because of his popularity status in High School. In "Love Story", Oliver doesn't care about his social status or his wealth, in the end he'd rather be with Jennifer. Same goes for Jennifer too, even though she has a Scholarship to Paris and wants to be a famous musician like Mozart, at the end of day the only thing that matters is the true love she has found with Oliver. The other reason I think not a lot of people like this movie is because some parts of the film seem to be unrealistic Well, the only minor problem I have with the film is how fast the love grows between the two main characters. I mean come on, it only took like 3 or 4 scenes before they finally give in to their love and sleep together. I think maybe if the script took maybe another 3 scenes to develop each of their characters a little more, maybe it wouldn't even be an issue. Still, it's a minor problem in an otherwise flawless film. Just because we real can't find love like that, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It just means we haven't found it yet. And I think that's the main reason my colleagues and movie fans in general hold a grudge against this movie. In our own lives, we haven't found our Jennifer or Oliver yet. If anything, this movie succeeds in the field that many other romantic comedies or romantic dramas fail at, a belief in True love. After watching this movie, I believe that True Love can be accomplished as long as we keep our eyes and minds open to different kinds of people, just like Oliver and Jennifer did.

Ryan V (mx) wrote: This dank, silly movie is Terry Gilliam's first film project outside of the Monty Python crew. However, the medieval setting, comedic style, and presence of Michael Palin all but force the viewer to compare Jabberwocky to Monty Python and The Holy Grail. And, aside from a well-directed sequence where Palin fights a creatively puppeted form of the Jabberwock, this film does not hold up well against its better known predecessor. The lighting is poor, the pacing is odd, the sound quality is dubious, and for the most part this movie feels like something made by a man who hasn't quite figured out what he's doing just yet.

Tom M (de) wrote: Perfectly enjoyable bit of high-seas adventure that suffers through some cheesy dialogue but offers enough intrigue and emotion to keep well afloat. Guinness is highly convincing as the honorable, fair, and wordly captain who must vie for control of his ship and crew against a sadistic first mate and massive discontent amongst seamen pressed unwillingly into service. Other central players like Bogarde and Quayle give believable performances as well.I was surprised by the depth and maturity of this and what it was trying to do. Instead of the anticipated Captain-Guinness-against-the-disgruntled-mutinous-hordes I was instead treated to a tale of personal drama, military politicking, and the grace found in honor amongst men. Also some stuff about patriotism. And some fun period detail. And damn the French. It's not Hugo, but for those willing to keep up with the little details and appreciate some subtle nuance, there are many layers to this one. 'Good' and 'right' float about a murky grey area, giving the whole thing some legitimacy and real character. It loses some of its luster whenever it gets to the obligatory long-winded naval battles which can't help but age the film, and that turn attention away from the real meat of the story. Coupled with the overbearing dialogue, its enough to hold the film back from greatness but not so much that the things it has to offer are totally lost in the noise. If you're into nautical history and military drama and have exhausted the bigger maritime war classics - this is an entirely viable place to turn.

Facebook U (fr) wrote: Somewhat realistic depiction of teen ages in the mid-70s. A bunch of now well-known actors play in this confusing film about nothing. Carrie would almost fit in there. Kids seems quite decent with the usual ones endulging their excessive desires of violence and that get come-upenced. The actors look almost all young enough to be in high school and most of the actions and reactions are very typical of the age. A real flash from the past filmed in 93. DVD included real flashed from the past: crying indian, anti-marihuanna and VD ads that gives the creeps and make you laugh. Ads were not very subtil at the time, and did not involve much thinking most of the time. The anti pot ad was particularly inefficient, must have been made by pot-heads!
