(us) wrote: I am surprised by how hated this film is. It's not a good film but it's not terrible either! It has a good performance by Ashley Hinshaw. Yes, it is slow and does not seem to know what it wants to say, but it still is an interesting film. Despit all its problems, bad script/bad direction, the film kept me interested in the characters and there lives. This is mainly due to the actors and their performances.

Here is a much sophisticated unique version of "Yojimbo" centering on two Russian mafia factions on opposite sides of each other and Cuba Gooding JR playing a professional assassin being hired to shoot and kill two specific people since they were collaborating with each other without the notification of the other. Cuba succeeds into killing one but not the other as he hides behind a scared female escort, and one of the things he doesn't do is shoot helpless women. Because Cuba botched this assassination, they then hire a new hit man nicknamed "The Wolf" played by Dolph Lundgren. Feeling unwanted, Cuba's middle man then instructs him to go after the old boss who originally employed him in the first place, and the first person he hits is the gang leader's kid brother. All hell breaks loose as the wolf is eventually going to clash with the Cuba Gooding JR character since they're both hired hit man's. The action scenes is not so great, but I love the set up as well as the handling of it just because these hit man movies often end so badly, and this is one of few ways I've never seen before which our anti- heroes can diffuse their complicated situation. 3 out of 4 stars

(it) wrote: ordinary movie, how the hell can this rate so high!!??bad acting, full of swearing. it's just stupid.
(it) wrote: I thought there was something sincere in this film. Very sad that two people missed out on the experience of one another due to the demands of others. The time-line in this movie gets a little hazy at times, but it still comes across successfully. Depressing though...

(jp) wrote: A boring movie about two brothers (one a dirty cop and the other a rising star of a priest) who are somehow involved in a murder investigation. The story kind of meanders and never really attaches itself to any sort of interesting idea of a plot. It just revels in the seedy underworld of its own creation, which is probably mostly taken from old movie cliches. Not a good film, and I don't know why De Niro or Duvall would be involved with it.
