Ghetto

Ghetto

We accompany a handful of teenagers on their forays into department stores, listen to techno musik, stand on the sidelines as a big kid picks on someone half his size. But the film has nothing of the usual voyeuristic sensationalism à la reality TV; it is rather a patently constructed, analytical montage of reality that opens out into times and spaces, and provides food for thought. Ghetto is divided into six loosely interwoven chapters. Each of the six chapters has its own coloring, its own pace and actors, its own treatment of the raw material. And each has its own distinctive scenery – interspersed shots of the geographical or architectural environment in which the young protagonists live. –First Hand Films

Antonio M (gb) wrote: Now I want to go see Winter and Hope, it was a beautiful movie.

Hailey T (us) wrote: Finally a family film that I can enjoy along with my kids. WOW is the best way to describe the movie. Amazing acting and an empowering story. My little boy was entertained by the trick riding, and my daughter wants to be Ida for Halloween. This is the impression the film left on my kids. I have to say that I was impressed with the story and emotional roller coaster this movie provided. I got so invested in the story that I teared up several times. I can't wait to buy this movie because I know it will keep my kids entertained for months. By this time next year I bet my daughter will have watched it 100 times.

Jon C (mx) wrote: I really liked it. Without script. Great for MMA fans but i think most people mildly interested in fights and sports would like the film.

Richard D (us) wrote: A great set up, but that unfortunately is all is has going for it. The film very quickly descends into typical horror/slasher tropes. The characters are 1-dimensional and the action is muddled with odd camera work.

Jim S (es) wrote: Snappy dialogue that is voiced by a very effective all star cast make this a fun movie for all ages. It's well animated, well directed and very clever.

Nathan N (br) wrote: It's exactly what you think it is.

John M (it) wrote: I think it's one of the best "hangout" films of all time. Basically, the film is coming from such a personal place. It's extremely relatable to these kinds of people who go out to the bars expecting love and happiness every weekend, and the contrasting characters in each group of friends who look at women in different ways. The low-budget, wandering feel of it that gives restrictions to the production design only helps the film achieve the authentic landscape and character dynamics. What it's like to be in your 20s, single and someone who thought they were going to be much more in life.

Julian M (nl) wrote: one of his best..this movie opened the eyes of america that chicanos exist..do they remember or understand ?

Bill B (de) wrote: This film has held up remarkably well on repeated viewings, and I must fully stand by my initial assessment:This is simply stunning to look at, with every inch of the screen brimming with detail and action, this one will easily bear out multiple viewings just to catch all the gags and visual flourishes throughout the film.My first exposure to the director, this makes me want to blind buy the rest of his catalog on the solid experience I had here.Highly recommended, give this one a look.

Felipe F (ru) wrote: Ray's excessive lenght is overcome by its talented cast - led by a powerhouse performance from Jamie Foxx on the title role - resulting in a entertaining biopic.

Margarita S (es) wrote: To revisit a franchise about a decade later is tricky to do, especially to do it well. This one hits all the right chords. It's melancholic throughout as it relates to the passage of time and the acceptance of getting older. Although there's an incredulity to the storyline set up, invested franchise viewers (like me) are sucked into it. There are two standout scenes -Rocky's speech in front of the boxing commission, as well as his impassioned speech to his son. Both are well acted and scripted. There's a comfort to be found in the consistency Stallone has maintained in his central character, Rocky. Stallone has also written one of the most beautiful marriages I've seen in the movies. I mentally balled my eyes out for a good chunk of this sentimental movie.
