Will G (nl) wrote: It's one of those movies I fondly remember watching as a kid on HBO. I just recently gave it another watch for the first time in what seems like 20 years. To be fair.... It is a TERRIBLE movie. Poorly acted, the plot hits too many B story bumps, and the overall problem and solution is too easy. On top of all that, the romances in the story seem forced. All that being said, it was never meant to be an oscar winning performance. It serves the purpose it was made for; Pure Goofy Entertainment. If you can stand cheesy acting, Bad Plot Twists, and cliche beach house style story then I highly recommend this movie.... Even though a young George Lopez is in it *shutter*
Matt H (jp) wrote: Great movie, really shows the warmth of the family at the beginning (reminds me of The Deer Hunter's wedding, but a better sequence), and the contrast in the second half - the audience is able to feel a sense of the loss the children (and mother) are feeling due to the vibrant opening. The priest guy is a great villain because he thinks he's doing the right and good thing, really interesting. I watched the shorter theatrical version, and I'm getting the feeling that was a mistake and that I should have started with the longer TV version. I'll perhaps give it another try once some time has passed.
