(jp) wrote: "Crank" seemed pretty mindless to me. It's exactly the opposite of what I call a "Good Movie." It needs more story. more depth. Not just stuff blowing up, gratuitous violence and idiotic sex scenes. However, I did like the concept though. One of the few positive factors of this movie was its use of very effective music. Jefferson Starship's "Miracles" is an interesting example. As Statham was falling to his "death," the music helped make the scene look more alive. So basically, this is not only a ridiculous action movie with lots of unrealistic violence, but also with a weak plot that makes it all seem kinda pointless.

I'm not as intimately familiar with Gaiman's work as I should be, but I am a big fan of McKean. I love his style, and luckily it oozes throughout every frame of the film. The effects, while not "great" are quite impressive considering the small scope of the film. I thought interesting and imaginative, and while maybe a bit thinly paced, I thought it was literally wonderful, and I feel it would be a great film for children in need of a different kind of fantasy.

(gb) wrote: For want of a better phrase a 'high concept' WWII POW escape film in which the 'cool' American, here played by Sinatra, shows the typically stuffy Brits how its done. For all its bank holiday/sunday afternoon status in this day and age the film has aged well and has more than a moment or two that are incredibly tense and well staged.
