(mx) wrote: A lackluster bond film that cuts corners and falls to choppy editing in the action sequences. Still, id be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it a little
(gb) wrote: The first half was great, an above average bank robbery movie with a great tone, some great cinematography, and even some laughs! Then the second half is not as good, losing everything good about the first half somehow. It was lost to the point that the second half felt like a different movie. Jodie Foster's whole storyline, and the bank robbers involvement, sucks. That should have been taken out, especially since the movie is too long. But, Denzel Washington, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Willem Dafoe give outstanding performances throughout, which did help to elevate the bad stuff a little bit. But the ending is good. I think the movie's biggest problem is the writing, but the directing is a flaw too because it's at fault for not helping fix the writing to make the movie better.

(mx) wrote: Wedged somewhere between The Running Man and The Hunger Games, but by far the most violent. Unfortunately the violence is boring and uninspired. Great concept but falls flat in just about every sense. The positive is the strangely believable performances from the young cast. Don't believe the hype.
(gb) wrote: This has been one of the most admired and imitated caper films of all time. Sure, it was made in the 60's, so don't look for MTV -type edits, but the story is a lot of fun, keeps you guessing right up until the end, and the characters and settings are very memorable. Peter Ustinov won an Academy Award for his performance, certainly one of his best -- and that's saying a lot. If you're in the business, and haven't yet seen Topkapi, you owe it to yourself to see it.
