Blake B (es) wrote: There is one way to describe The Normal Heart; heartbreakingly beautiful. The film gives insight to one of America's most blind, close-minded times. It just shows how far we have come when it comes to the knowledge of AIDS and STI's, even though we still have a long way to go. It's heart wrenching to see a large part of our world was dying from this crisis and we did NOTHING about it for the longest time, when we easily could've helped in some possible way. The film makes you want to stand for something, and be rooted in your beliefs when it comes to your life. Shocking to see that every person in this film were on their acting game. Not one was better than the other. The film featured perfect performances. Not to mention Ryan Murphy's beautiful direction. The Normal Heart is a beautiful recounting of a dark, horrible time in America's history, but provides the audience, at the same time with an uplifting story of hope.

Mark B (us) wrote: For those of us who weren't around in 1955, assessing a movie like Blackboard Jungle, through a modern lens, and without the proper sociological perspective, might be unfair. But if you can get past that, and ignore what now come off as overly-wrought bad boys and cheesy classroom scenes, it is a film that will keep you on your toes and keenly interested in how this all turns out. Glenn Ford stars as high school teacher Richard Dadier, who is attempting to rein in a bunch of trouble-makers at a down-and-out urban trade school. Key players are the various wanna-be hoodlums and scofflaws that belong to Dadier's home room English class. Included in the cast are several actors who would go on to prolific careers, among them Jamie Farr, Vic Morrow, and Sidney Pottier. One admirable thing about the film is that is does not sell out with an overly-dramatic, eye-roll inducing ending that you are probably expecting. That's not to say that the ending is not predictable. It?s just not overdone. Ford really carries the film, and his performance has stood the test of time. Contemporary viewers will probably not say the same regarding the portrayal of the students in the film. But I encourage you to roll with the punches on this one albeit significant point, and enjoy what is otherwise a solid film with some inspiring moments.
