Dave A (ca) wrote: More like beat your ASS for wasting time on this filth. Coming across as a second-rate Step-Up knock-off, Beat The World features three dance crews from around the world, with two of them being revealed early that they are German and Brazilian. You have to wait until the end to find out that CANADA is the one the movie puts the attention on the most, and in a not-so surprising twist, the team that has the least amount jerks pulls through and "beats the world"...YAWWWWNYou get some parkour, some sessions, more parkour, 15 minutes of derivative plot, more sessions, it goes on and on and on. None of the relationships here are genuine, except for the main relationship between Yuson and his girl, but they both can't carry the film.Ultimately, this is a "me too" film trying to capture the Step-Up craze, all the while screaming GOOO CANADA. In the end, we beat a German and Brazilian dance crew.....with inferior dance moves. What did you expect when the Beat The World tournament is held in bloody DETROIT?!? Shit, that's what.Mindless, dull, derivative and utterly pointless, Beat The World only beats itself. With no imagination, interesting characters, or even creative dancing, it won't grab your attention. Stay clear of this dance wreck!

When I saw the cast that was in this I thought it wouldn't be too bad. It even has Alice Cooper in it although you'd be hard pressed to recognize him. Mae West is far past her prime but still delivers the double entendres that that actually are the best part. Love the line 'Im the girl who works @ Paramount & Fox all night'. The truly horrible part (& there is a lot of bad here) is that it is a musical & the numbers are just fucking terrible. There's even a rendition of Captain & Tennille's Love Will Keep Us together...Fucking brutal
Dave J (de) wrote: Monday, January 13, 2014 (1950) Los Olvidados SOCIAL COMMENTARY As much as I'm a huge fan of Luis Buuel, it's hard to enjoy watching a movie that's way too close to home. Dwells on the lives of mainly two characters of young Pedro (Alfonso Mejia) and teenager El Jaibo (Roberto Cobo). They're a couple of juvenile delinquents, hoodlums or misfits except that one is much worst than the other. There aren't too many surrealistic images on this movie, but does consist of characters I can easily relate, mainly because some of the same disgusting atrocities shown on this film also happens in real life all the time. It's the graphic look and no-holds bared examples of narcissism at it's best for this one particular character feels like he is entitled to a life of crime without consequences. I've physically met and conversed with actual people who act like El Jaibo and they're usually called alcoholics and crack heads where they have zero shame into stealing and beating old ladies to death for a little bit of money- just so they can support their addictions/ habits. And because I watch the news and read newspapers often, I also read about these kinds of people on the news all the time some committing some of the worst acts ever committed onto people in general for they absolutely have no sense of remorse for the things that they do. It is for those reasons why I can't recommend this very important film for it's like reliving what you want to forget. 2 out of 4 stars
Will M (de) wrote: How many fat leading men have there been? Few, few. Edward Arnold brings an intensity and strange balleticism to his work here. Frances Farmer is, as always, wonderful. This could have been a masterful film, but it suffers from the split-vision of Hawks and Wyler. The latter must be responsible for the attempt at scope and Meaning, the former for the good stuff.
Matheus A (mx) wrote: This is not as brutal as the book, but still pretty awsome to watch Depp and Del Toro high as hell doing the most craziest things ever. Del Toro gives us all a class of acting turning himself in the "bada**" attorney. Gilliam shows his directing skills but not so much writing. Its a hell of a show.

Tom R (mx) wrote: The Dead is a well-crafted movie by John Huston (The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen) and probably one of the best Irish dramas ever made. It has good acting from its entire cast, captures many subtle moments of human behavior usually not seen in modern movies, and contains very beautiful vocal performances and music. Even though I was intrigued by it, I couldn't get over the fact that not a lot happens in it. Being based off a short story by James Joyce, it reminds me of a novella you are forced to read in high school and talk about it's symbolism more than the story itself. I think The Dead is one of those movies that gets better with each viewing, so I'll be watching this again in the future.
