The absence of Terry Zwigoff is noticeable. He's one of the best at making audiences sympathize with self loathing characters. That's what made the original Bad Santa so great. In this, Billy Bob is just an asshole. He has some good moments and flashes of original Willie, but altogether a definite downgrade. Same goes for every other character. The cute, innocent, C-student Thurman Murman from the original is now cringe worthy, hopeless young adult. The addition of Kathy Bates was terrible. After the 14th time she called Billy Bob "shit stick" I decided to never watch another one of her movies again, with the exception of Misery. Overall, I'm very surprised BBT would agree to make this if he actually pre-read the script. Desperate, lazy cash grab that fails miserably.

Execution is not that good & this is probably one of the most disappointing performance by Cecilia Cheung as well. Going a bit too far-fetched & self-absorbed near the end. Still one rarely seen profound movie in HK Cinema in decades.

(ru) wrote: Easily the strangest Arthurian film ever made, done in Bresson's unique, deliberately paced style of never pointing the camera in the obvious direction (call it the Downcast Camera Style). The film achieves some amazing effects--Lancelot's jousting, for one, is deconsctructed to the point that it reinforces the superhuman quality of his achievements. And the ending is bizarre beyond belief, equating the fall of Camelot with the end of all civiliztion (and for all I know, Bresson was right). A great film.

(gb) wrote: The central character in this Ingmar Bergman masterpiece is a schizophrenic woman who was recently released from a mental hospital and is seemingly doing better, but she starts to unravel during a family vacation. the other characters are her husband, her brother, and her absentee father. The films tackles several complex issues including mental illness, religion, and family relationships and how they shape a person's character. It is a challenging film and Bergman leaves a lot for the viewer to interpret, but that makes it all the more rewarding. The performances are all outstanding, per usual with Bergman films. one of the absolute highlights is the stunning B&W cinematography from Sven Nykvist which effectively makes every frame of this film look gorgeous. This film won the Foreign Language Oscar, and it's easy to see why. Highly recommended!

After inheriting his great aunt's estate in Louisiana, Fletch is framed for murder and has to discover who's behind it. Once again Chase delivers a great performance, though the character is a bit less edgy than in the previous film. Additionally, the sketches aren't as organic; coming off as rather board and cartoonish. Still, the comedy's really good and the mystery is involving. Fletch Lives is a lot fun and is full of laughs, but it doesn't have as good a story as the original.
