Nicki M (fr) wrote: Nice little low budget movie about a plumber (Martin Donovan) who pretends to be a movie director to impress a girl (Rebecca Gayheart). His neighbour (Mary Louise Parker) has written a script, and it seems like this movie just may get made after all...I put off watching this one for ages. Have picked it up several times at the video store, (dating back probably to when it actually was on video. haha). Saw it going out as an ex-rental for $1.95, decided what the hell, how bad could it be compared to some of the stuff I have sat through lately?!It was actually pretty good! Nice little story and very well acted.

The puzzle box unlocks a night of insane pleasure and pain. The happenings of that night are caught on tape and viewed by the police and parents. One set of parents find the box, watch the video, and may unleash similar pleasures and pain."You summoned us and we came.""Came for what?"Victor Garcia, director of Return to the House on Haunted Hill, Mirrors 2, Frost Giant, The Damned, and the upcoming Digger, delivers Hellraiser: Revelation. The storyline for this picture was of similar quality as Hellraiser: Hellseeker. The gore was just okay and I cannot say I was a fan of the new Pinhead (Stephan Smith Collins). The acting was below par and the cast includes Tracey Fairaway, Fred Tatasciore, Nick Eversman, Steven Brand, and Sanny van Heteren."What do you got there?""A puzzle box."I was always a huge fan of the first two films in this series and the third was definitely worth watching; however, all of these sequels after that are fairly awful. I still watch them for the solid kill scenes, but that's all they have going for them. I'd skip this picture unless you're a diehard fan of the series and/or horror genre."What is on that camera?"Grade: F

Joe A (gb) wrote: I don't remember how i was recommended this film, but it was not at all what I expected, which isn't always a bad thing, but what I got was completely different from what I expected that I spend half the movie wondering if I should continue to watch it. For one, this is a Finnish movie, not a Chinese movie as expected. Yes half of the movie take place in ancient china, but it was still a Finnish movie. The biggest problem I had with the movie is that it was confusing. It deals with a Mythology that I have never heard of before and I couldn't tell from the movie if it was something that had been passed down or if it was completely fictional. The interweaving of story between modern day Finland and ancient China was that bad, but the camera work was god awful. If I were to use one word to describe this film, it would be "Unique" I have never seen another film do this before.

Jeremy G (ru) wrote: Good RomCom for guys. Great ensemble for the movie, the 3 guys really sell the friendship between the characters.

This isn't radically original but cracks along at a nice pace. Pretty low budget offering but its all done well enough and understands and works with its limitations. You gotta love a madman who cuts off his own face and kills people to steal there best features though. This gets a bonus half star from me for featuring Jenny Wright star of Near Dark one of my fave ever Vampire movies, and I think this is the only other thing i have ever seen her in.
