(it) wrote: "Hurt people hurt people"Ben Stiller plays one of strangest and most unlikable protagonists ever put on screen. On one hand it's commendable; movies have a way of softening characters that would otherwise be wretched if we met them in real life. Watching Greenberg I realized how so many so-called anti heroes, antagonists, even villains are often seen through some filmic screen that makes them somehow more attractive, sensible, and well, likable then they reasonable should be. It's refreshing how completely straight faced the movie is in this regard. The film's honest to a certain type of real-to-life person. However, that same quality is also its main detractor. At times it felt like an endurance test in sympathy. As tough as a watch as it is, I'm ultimately kind of thankful that a film like this exist. It's interesting and without cheating, had a way of understanding Roger Greenberg, perhaps more than he does himself. In certain scenes, and by the end, I almost felt something like empathy for him. Almost. At one point Roger, more than a little sauced, calls Greta Gerwig's character up and slips in the phrase "hurt people hurt people." Rarely has a movie shown that so clearly and completely.

(ag) wrote: I loved this movie! The suspense, plot, acting, atmosphere, and even a twist at the end which equals to a great movie. I didn't look at the critics score til after the movie and I would have passed on it if I had. I think maybe the critics screened a different movie than the one that I just watched. All I can say is judge for yourself and ignore the other reviews. This one is worth seeing.

(us) wrote: The book is incredible, the movie is good with some painful flaws. First of all, chinese =/= japanese. Secondly, the scene they invented near the end of the movie with the American general acting like an unrestrained pervert towards Sayuri is stupid, insulting, and a hollywood clich that the story in no way needed.
(es) wrote: While this movie will undoubtedly be loved by kids, it will fall short for others. Very predictable, but overall enjoyable. Nothing beyond the setting is new. I felt that the people behind this movie went the safe route rather than try something new. Was a little shocked when I recognized the voices of Leonard Nimoy and Phil LaMarr(Hermes Conrad from Futarama).
(us) wrote: This movie was really good. Loved how it truly portrayed the story of the rise, the fall and reunion of NWA. How Easy-E died was sad. The cast was good in portraying all of the characters. Very inspirational and dramatic in regards to depicting relations between the police, rap music and the African-American community.
