Hannah Arendt is a portrait of the genius that shook the world with her discovery of “the banality of evil.” After she attends the Nazi Adolf Eichmann’s trial in Jerusalem, Arendt dares to write about the Holocaust in terms no one has ever heard before. Her work instantly provokes a furious scandal, and Arendt stands strong as she is attacked by friends and foes alike. But as the German-Jewish émigré also struggles to suppress her own painful associations with the past, the film exposes her beguiling blend of arrogance and vulnerability — revealing a soul defined and derailed by exile.

(ca) wrote: it was cute...i liked how it stuck to its few main animals, but still mentioned a few others... it was put together better than i thought it would be... i didnt mind QL's narration... similar to planet earth, but with the intention of bringing to mind the effects of global warming, which was subtle, so i didnt mind it...

(gb) wrote: The Thurman performance is quite bizarre. She is not obviously on drugs here but her behaviour suggests being affected by something more than stress. Her erratic, imbalanced personality is distracting to the story. This is unfortunate as the story is quite elegant in spite of the naff time (80s) and naff (New Jersey) geography.I also thought the cinematography is brilliant. There is a flair to the camera and lighting very rarely seen from HBO films.

(it) wrote: A western in the sense that it is set in the west during the time period when we think all westerns are. It is more of a comedy than anything with the crux being the relationship between Wayne and O'Hara, or lack thereof at the start. Wayne plays the owner of most of the land and industry of the area with O'Hara his estranged wife, back east living the life of the upper-crust. She is back awaiting the return of their daughter, Stephanie Powers, who must choose between a life back east with her mother or out west with her father. The juxtaposition between mother and father is also between the class distinction of the money back east and the hard-earned money out west. This class war is played out throughout the movie with the classroom educated, Agard and Douglas Jr., being portrayed as clumsy and incompetent while the street-smart people, G.W. and the Warren family, faring much better. The class war usually makes for good comedy and throw in a town full of odd characters and this makes for a watchable movie.
