(de) wrote: A predictably uninspired absurd Japanese tale, based around a serial killing tropical fish shop owner. This was never going to be ground-breaking and soon falls into a modern shock gore warp-a-thon with a flaky story and limited, comic like characters,Cold Fish is thus for the die hard movie fan seeking out the different and indifferent. Cold Fish is bloody, comical and compellingly deranged, but far too long and wild, to be anything worth raving about.

I thought Redford's character was a little bland in contrast, but he still acted it well. Pollack, Coppola and company do a terrific job adapting a one act play to the silver screen. this is quintessential Tennessee Williams--setting, characters, conflicts--everything was tailor-made for his style of storytelling. the ending's a bit vague and depressing, but I actually like having to fill in my own blanks with this one. overall a solid, enjoyable, and very over-looked film.

Basically a pastiche of lots of other movies - even one of my all-time favourites, Chinatown - and also the more famous creations of producer George Lucas. I was slightly irritated to hear Ray Winstone voicing yet another cockney heavy. But I loved the Castaneda-style mystic journey, and the Clint Eastwood-like Spirit of the West, not to mention the owl mariarchi band!
