(br) wrote: While the actors provided wonderful performances, the situation the characters are placed in seems completely contrived to allow them to spout stereotypical liberal and conservative diatribes; ideologies that we see so often in the news. None of the characters says anything remotely unique or enlightening. We already know these characters as we meet and see them every day in ourvlives

Firstly is pacing issues, especially at the beginning of the film. It takes roughly 45 minutes for the backpackers to get to Wolf Creek. There are also very mild pacing issues while they are being threatened by the antagonist, but not nearly as bad as the extremely slow start. Secondly, the characters are quite boring (despite really good acting). There was really nobody to root for, and yes, I do understand it's "based on true events", but Greg (he also wrote the film) could have fleshed out the characters a bit more. Now for the pros. I have to give huge credit to the director of photography (Will Gibson) for providing some of the most breathtaking shots I've ever seen in a horror film. It is a truly great film to look at. Also, the direction by Greg McLean is fantastic; there are some very suspenseful scenes in there and the tension after the slow build is mostly consistent. There is a pretty intense chase scene which will have you on the edge of your seat. The acting is also great with a truly frightening performance by John Jarratt as Mick Taylor. Overall, Wolf Creek has a weak start and boring characters, but finally picks u again in the second act with fantastic cinematography and gruelling tension.IS IT WORTH THE WATCH... Yes!

(us) wrote: The first real cyber-punk movie ever with commercial success. The movie is certainly NOT full of clichs, since it is the first of its kind - a trend-setter for all cyber-punk movies to come. Although the manuscript could benefit from a few extra hours of work, the movie itself and the concept behind it, is the perfect school for Keanu Reeves to learn his role as "Neo" in "The Matrix". Set your mind free, and allow your imagination to take over... just for a little while. This movie is certainly no less realistic than "The Matrix", and a `must-see' for any science fiction fan !!!
(ca) wrote: God this movie is so over the top it's great, even if the rape scene is horrible uncomfortable in its exploitative gaze... the one liners, the soundtrack, the violence.. all 80's sleaze at its finest...

(es) wrote: One of the best silent movies I have seen so far, and what is even more impressive is that it is also one of the oldest movies I have seen so far. Way ahead of its time, this one!

(ca) wrote: 4.0 stars. I really enjoyed this movie. I think it's Spike Lee's best. Good acting all around, which is to be expected from actors like Denzel, Clive and Jodie to name a few. I like how they cut between the heist and the interrogations. I would recommend this one, especially if you dig bank heist movies.
(br) wrote: It had a lot of funny bits and a fair sort of plot too. Steve Zahn was terrific. I liked it and have watched it more than once.
