Brett B (au) wrote: HATCHET's heart is clearly in the right place (evidenced by the appearance of genre vets like Todd, Englund, and Hodder), but there are just too many comic moments that fall painfully flat, in addition to a rather amateurish aesthetic. Indeed, the entire movie is kind of horrifically overlit (it is as if a blindingly bright spotlight is following the characters around the dark swampland of the story's setting). The dialogue contains some fun references, but most of the out-and-out humor doesn't work, and the whole thing is underscored by music which undercuts the tone a seemingly ever turn. The gore effects are a ton of over-the-top fun, but they're not enough to prevent HATCHET from mostly being a misfire.

Her desire to name and shame the murky, evil Irish drug dealers made her a household name in Ireland, but in the end those drug dealers stopped her in her tracks to bring them down.An intense and gritty drama with immense emotional feeling. This is an extremely powerful film with an equally powerful performance from Cate Blanchett. No matter what role she takes on she 110% owns the role.Magnificent portrayal the this real life story.

Lee M (mx) wrote: The performances are precise, the language is alive and well spoken and the setting is striking, but "Vanya on 42nd Street" still suffers from the limitations of filmed theater. It's a prestige item for the fest and arthouse circuit.
Ashley H (jp) wrote: Internal Affairs is an excellent film. It is about Raymond Avila who joins the Internal Affairs Department of the Los Angeles police. Andy Garcia and Richard Gere give amazing performances. The script is well written. Mike Figgis did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama. Internal Affairs is a must see.

It also took me some time to realize that one of the characters was a vampire (OK, we didn't it watch it that regularly -- it was still a soap opera). Here is a horror movie made by Dan Curtis to capitalize on the success of the soap -- and despite its 70s low-budget trappings, it worked for me. Can vampirism be cured by medical science? Find out! Enough cheap thrills with the shaky-cam and a brief running time get this across.
SV G (au) wrote: Filled with lots of old fashioned schmaltz and gee-wiz flag-wavin hoak - but as those types of films go - this did pull at the old hoaky heartstrings. I was not all that impressed with the vocals (though Hayward was dubbed in this film unlike when she did her own vocals in the better film I'll Cry Tomorrow), BUT the old songs were still fun to listen to & the wardrobe was fun to look at! Also a very very young & handsome Robert Wagner in two short scenes was an added enjoyment.
Adam S (ca) wrote: Exceptional RKO noir with Howard Hughes protege Faith Domergue as a loony, sexy Femme Fatale who ropes good doc Robert Mitchum into a love affair that goes from bad to worse while on the run from the cops. Nicholas Musuraca's black and white cinematography, as usual, is spellbinding.
Paul K (us) wrote: Totally fluffy piece of Hollywood nonsense, ideal for an evening's vegging out in front of the telly. Includes a few laughs, no credible emotions, and a predictable if slightly weird plot. Good cast in a poor movie.
