Dommage.

(es) wrote: One of the best Jesus films ever made. It's better than Mel Gibson's film, which I liked for the most part. It's as good, if not better, than Pier Paolo Passolini's THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW. This is Franco Zeffirelli's 1977 six hour miniseries. British actor Robert Powell is arguably the greatest Jesus on film and he does a really good job. The supporting cast is superb with Anne Bancroft as Mary Magdalene, James Farantino as Peter (who was nominated for an Emmy, Lawrence Olivier as Nicodemus, Rod Steiger as Pilate, and Olivia Hussey as Mary. The film conflates all four Gospels, and, for the most part, it works well. It also has a great music score. This is, in my opinion, is the definitive Jesus film.

(mx) wrote: Radical Hammer sci-fi thriller about a sinister top secret government project based, on the novel 'The Children Of Light' by H.L. Lawrence and made in 1961 though not released in Britain until 1963 and the US until 1965 where it was renamed These Are the Damned. Direted by Jospeh Losey, it has been referred to as "the highpoint of the first wave of the British postwar Science Fiction films". It's certainly acquired a cult status today and is perhaps one of the least known of Hammer's films. The film was cut by 19 mins for one version, removing many of its sharp philosophical speeches and a handful of interesting character confrontations however Sony/Columbia restored the film to its original 96-minute length in the early 1990s, and it has been greeted with enthusiasm at film festivals ever since. What was once considered one of Joseph Losey's weakest efforts is quickly becoming recognized as the very best of English Science Fiction filmmaking.
