The problem is that he also loves his wife! The film was a HUGE hit in France and Europe and made about 12 dollars in America. Still, it's fine.

Luke B (mx) wrote: Engaging thriller that follows a strict path. Like so many thrillers, this film has a lot to sort out. There are relationships to develop, a character to moce from point A to point B, and twists and turns. Scorupco returns to her home town after an old flame is found murdered and her best friend is the prime suspect. The film takes on religion as its main adversary. The victim was a preacher that made millions for the church. We see a close-knit community wanting to keep things simple. No one's to be trusted. The films succeeds in offering a finale that causes you to question the final actions of individual characters. The film has some gorgeous landscapes that it explores. The ice, the snow, the northern lights. All this is captured and creates a cold, isolated, but hypnotic atmosphere. It's a wonderful ending, but the journey there was so generic, it's impossible to rate it any higher.

ray h (ag) wrote: This is a very small film. It takes place over a few hours during an Iran vs Bahrain soccer game. The story covers several women soccer fans who try to sneak into a men's only World Cup qualifying match. . I decided to see it because it had been very highly rated. But, the movie is over-rated. I suspect the high ratings came because of the nature of the topic. It is controversial in Arab/Persian/Islamic countries for women to participate freely in society as men can. The pc police were at work here.It was very modestly interesting/entertaining.You should pass on this one.

They get much more than they bargained for when they encounter a real bikie gang and things get far more interesting from that point on.The film is fun and harmless as each of the four are escaping something from their old lives in the hopes of finding a bit of freedom.

Wendy B (jp) wrote: Watched this on TV last night as a last resort but I'm really glad I did. The two young girls were great. I grew up in a small town and I can remember wanting out so badly. (I never thought of pretending to get pregnant though.) Nicholas Campbell and Mary Walsh didn't really seem to have enough to their roles though. That was a bit disappointing.
Ken C (ru) wrote: This is one of those cases where even if your not a big Abel Ferrara fan you can still enjoy it. Fear city is a detective/revenge thriller about cops, hookers, pimps, ex-boxers and a killer. It's centered around two pimps who run a business selling girls to night club owners to strip for there paying customers. But business starts getting a little rough once they find out theirs a killer on the loose who kills women on the street and writes about it in a journal when he gets home. Women are then too afraid to leave there home while others are getting brutally murdered leaving all of the strip joints empty and putting the two pimps in very angry and vengeful states. Meanwhile, Billy Dee Williams is also trying to capture the killer while also keeping a sharp eye on the two pimps. The only two Ferrara movies I've seen other than this were Bad Lieutenant and The Funeral, and while those two movies were sort of like mood pieces, Fear City is a highly entertaining, 80's crime thriller with a pretty rockin' soundtrack and a really great cast. I'm not saying that this is better than the other 2 Ferrara movies, I just think that this is the most entertaining and is the easiest to watch if you don't have a problem with bare breasted women in thongs. When the movie ends it has a pretty exciting climax that I wont give away, but it leaves so many unanswered questions regarding the killer, the partner, and the club. It's like Abel had just completely forgotten about all the movie's subplots and just dropped them completely at the final scene. But problems aside, this is still a fun and entertaining crime story. It's a little different from Abel's previous work which means that anyone can watch it except for kids.

Mark P (it) wrote: The best crime film ever made. I've lost count how many times I've seen it, and every time I have just as much enjoyment as the first time I saw it when it came out. The only problem is my natural cockney accent comes back for a few hours straight after, which can be a problem when you live in Canada as no-one can understand a word I say.

David F (ru) wrote: This slick film about the conflict between money and morality and the perils of sexual jealousy between spouses isn't very deep but it has a glittering surface with great appeal. Sexy and dangerous, it's like a femme fatale of a movie, tempting you with amorality and luxury in a way that appeals to your lust but not your heart.

Tim S (de) wrote: I liked the fact that it went away from the total cliches of most sports films and thought it was interesting to see Redford play such a almost souless person whose entire existence is about going faster and ultimately winning. You can't help but think of Redford as ballsy for putting his good looking charmer clout on the line with performances like this. He is not likable in the least sense, but I enjoyed watching him and kind of understood where he was coming from even if he was being a complete asshole about it. I also loved the way the film was shot almost like a documentary and it made you feel as if you were on the slopes with him whereas now they would just prop him up in front of a green screen and call it a day. Overall, just one of those gems from the period that I don't think will ever rise again.
