Cameron H (br) wrote: Happy day before Halloween! Ghost Shark fulfills all that one could ask for low-budget shark attack porn: awful acting, awful special effects, awful editing, awful cinematography, and ridiculous deaths by shark attack. The premise is that a ghost shark haunts the townspeople of Smallport, devouring each person by means of water travel. This means any body of water: sprinkler, faucet, fire hydrant, etc. The character development is non-existent. Conflicts are established, but are never resolved. That is okay, for it does not occupy too much screen time. The shark attacks are so entertaining, especially in the selfishness of the humans before they are attacked, that lack of development should not bog down the whole experience. Watch Ghost Shark for what you want it to be, and nothing more.

Dan H (fr) wrote: Well-crafted, beautifully shot piece of speculative fiction. Sam Shepard is perfect as a grizzled old Butch Cassidy, who (in this take on the legend) survived being massacred by the Bolivian army, quietly living out his days breeding horses on a small ranch in the Bolivian mountains. He is drawn into one last adventure when he strikes up a mutually beneficial arrangement with a Spanish mining engineer, who he helps to retrieve a hidden stash of $50,000. The dialogue and relationship between the pair plays out in very entertaining fashion, slightly reminiscent of "Angel Eyes" and the "Ugly"; and like the best westerns, the line between good and bad is a hazy one, with things not always as they seem. Shot entirely on location in Bolivia, the scenery is absolutely stunning, often like nothing you've ever seen before; and while the pacing is sometimes a little off, the meditative nature of the film allows time to savour every drop of atmosphere. Not an action-packed western, but nonetheless top notch film-making.
Dustin P (mx) wrote: Although probably a realistic view of Hollywood, it came off as a very dull, pessimistic, and depressing. Most of the interviews were boring. The way it was filmed and the audio were pretty bad too.
Lee M (jp) wrote: What if a gay guy could take a pill that would make him straight? Would he do it? What kinds of consequences would there be? While a setup like this is easy to imagine, it's more of a challenge to follow through with a screenplay that doesn't descend into camp. Hard Pill succeeds through subtlety, not only by exploring the huge psychological price paid by the guy who takes the pill, but also by noting the damage his decision inflicts on the friends he has spent years gathering around him.
Johnny B (fr) wrote: It's not Shinya Tsukamoto's best, but it's interesting and strange, so it should please his fans at least somewhat. The film is also remarkably tame, considering the director and the premise.

Michal L (au) wrote: I was really looking forward to seeing this film and I didn't get it. It seemed to have all the "art house" must have including long lingering shots on burning cigarettes and full ashtrays and "cull de sac", meaningless dialogues. It is interesting to see the beginning of his work which I admire.
