(de) wrote: It had a exceptionally tantalizing premise, but as the film dragged on, it got less intense and more frothy, characters got flimsier, and it seemed less inspired by 'Kramer vs. Kramer' and more by 'Out of Africa.' I believe it would have worked a lot better if the story had been told linearly, but props to Ozon (who continues to impress me) for the idea.
(br) wrote: Completely unbelievable premise, characters who are by no means role models, and mediocre acting. Sounds like I really hated it...but actually it is a cute film. The main character is extremely dedicated to her father, to the point where she will use her "womanly charms" (ha!) on her best friends to get what she wants. This is brain candy so long as you totally suspend your disbelief that 3 young teens can rob a bank with a sophisticated security system (even if it was programmed by one of their mother's).

(de) wrote: I thought this film about ten students working at a resort would be the perfect summer film to watch but the biggest plot development was whether the students would earn a year-end party from the boss. Spoiler alert - they earn the party!
(ag) wrote: Incredibly formulaic and cheesy crime action/thriller. The killer is the worst cliche, and Chuck Norris' character is such a douche in this, there's just not much to recommend. Unless you want you see a drama about two unmarried lovers contend with having a baby, but if that's what you want, I wouldn't look to a Chuck Norris movie for it...

(br) wrote: Creepy and atmospheric early 80's chiller with Skinner as a TV station employee who gets a warning from aging beach blanket movie actress Larkey that her plane will be going down. Sure enough, Skinner boards the plane and wakes up to find herself in a large field with airplane parts, fire, and carnage veryone around her, but she hasn't so much as a scratch. Soon, it seems that death is hellbent on bringing her back to the other side, so they can finish the job they started. Final Destination clearly drew some inspiration here, but the execution is a lot different and Sole Survivor is much more frightening. Full of creep outs and some very effective jump scares, Sole Survivor is an undeservingly obscure gem that really gets under one's skin. This is one you need to see!
(gb) wrote: Strangely eerie, not only for the music or the fact that there's never an explanation given for the mysterious disappearances, but rather for the reactions of those most closely involved with the incident.

(es) wrote: Lugosi is the best thing about the movie, and probably one of this best performances ever. The plot isn't too bad, but the film is a bit too short. The zombies are your typical Pre-Romero types, but they still have pretty good make-up. It's a classic little gem.
(gb) wrote: Hard Candy is like biting into a lollipop with a razor blade. The story is a cat and mouse power struggle of a teenage girl meeting with a thirty year old photographer after meeting on an online chatroom. Psychologically thrilling, bravely written, and a nuanced subtle sense of dread throughout makes arguably Ellen Page's pre-Juno breakout film.

(fr) wrote: Uncle Buck is directed and written by John Hughes, and it stars John Candy, Jean Louisa, Macaulay Culkin, Gaby Hoffmann, and Amy Madigan in a comedy film about their grandfather having a heart attack, their parents have no idea who to call to take care of their kids, and they end up calling their brother-in-law named Buck (John Candy). In terms of films that John Hughes has directed, I almost watched all of them. The only films that I haven't seen yet, are She's Having a Baby, and Carly Sue. With this however, it's the last John Hughes directed film that I watched that I've seen before, and I still enjoyed it. John Candy is terrific as he usually is in films that like Robin Williams, he always tries to be funny in a film, even if it's bad. The kid actors in this like Macaulay Culkin and Gaby Hoffmann are really good and funny for their young age and not in an annoying way. There are some crazy jokes in here, and they get a laugh out of me, and the script by John Hughes still manages to have some of his great work in here, even if it isn't his best here. The only issue besides the not much of a spark script that I had, was that you know where some of the plot elements will go. Luckily it wasn't the main focus here, the film focuses on the characters and the humor, which really work thanks to the charms from the late John Candy.
