Ronny N (kr) wrote: If you're looking for funny, be warned that this documentary by possibly the least funny Jew in the world has slightly fewer laughs than SHOAH or THE SORROW AND THE PITY. The good news is that it's shorter. Had Mr. Zweig gone to his Rabbi with his existential problems about Jewishness he could have avoided wasting the time of some truly funny Jews who seemed confused (not to mention annoyed) as to why they were being interviewed. He never creates an environment that allows his subjects to be, what's the word I'm looking for...funny. Jews are funny, Zweig isn't. This was an opportunity for gold and he came up with dreck.

Yani D (fr) wrote: Absolutely beautiful! Set against the blissful backdrop of a mountainous region of Hunan province. Explores the relationship between an elderly postman and his estranged son. Meditations on life away from ones family, and the transition in their relationship as the son takes over his fathers postal-route, and becomes a man. A nicely spun tale, both heart-wrenching and heart-warming in turn.

Ricardo P (us) wrote: utterly brilliant! A strange Scottish movie, beautifully filmed; a sort of bizarre, fantasy take on therapy - that, for me, entirely out does Inception in its portrayal of travelling in dream worlds...

Simon T (it) wrote: Perfectly cast (has Ryan O'Neal ever been better?), sumptuously designed and photographed, dryly funny - particularly in the first half - profoundly moving towards the close. Kubrick's masterpiece has at last been recognised for the great movie it always was. As astonishing as 2001: a space odyssey, and as beautiful to watch.

Iggy A (es) wrote: Eh, fine. A basic old-school Western. With lesser actors, it would not have been worth watching, but it does its job. If you want to be thoroughly entertained, getting the absolute most for your money, find something better. If you are in the mood for a decent story done by competent people all the way around, sit down and enjoy this one (for what its worth).I'd put Tomestone [1993] or The Long Riders [1980] or Unforgiven [1992] in the DVD player before this one - or any of the James Stewart Westerns (I have a soft spot for Jimmy), but I'm glad I watched Open Range...
