Bonnie H (es) wrote: My favorite scene is when a supposedly dead man wheels himself and his chair into the ocean! ^_^ But seriously, this movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be artsy, gritty, or an action flick. Plus there were some SERIOUSLY awkward scenes. If there were a censored version, I might be tempted to buy it to show off the three minutes of it that were so nonsensical that they were hilarious. The rest of it was just frustrating and meaningless. The movie definitely didn't deliver on the trailer.

Jeffrey M (ru) wrote: A great visual style, as you would expect from Roland Joffe(TM), but it ultimately lacks the narrative power of his better works, notably The Killing Fields. The production values and overall world building of civil war torn Spain was excellent, but the more modern storyline, to which the film often flashbacks to, was less convincing (especially the ~aged(TM) Wes Bentley), and often undermined the more compelling earlier story. I also felt the themes were a bit heavy handed, a symptom of an unpolished script, one that also features some stilted dialogue. Olga Kurlenko, for her part, was amazing, and was certainly the most compelling character of this historical epic. At the end, you have a lot of great set pieces and some good story elements, making it watchable, but certainly not without some problems.3/5 Stars

Steve J (fr) wrote: Grimy, unpleasant character study makes Deliverance look like Breakfast at Tiffany's and certainly presents an unflattering portrait of the Australian male psyche. Controversial not only for its uncompromising critique of barbaric machismo but for its representation of Outback culture (which doesn't make one want to take a trip Down Under any time soon), this film contains a number of shockingly brutal images (including a real kangaroo hunt, which made me want to throw up). I don't want to reveal too many details about the plot, so I'll just say that this film is sort of the inverse of Crocodile Dundee (with which it shares at least one supporting actor), and that Donald Pleasance gives what may be his creepiest performance. The end of this film left me speechless, breathless, and utterly spent. WATCH IT!!!
