Holy Motors

Holy Motors

We follow 24 hours in the life of a being moving from life to life like a cold and solitary assassin moving from hit to hit. In each of these interwoven lives, the being possesses an entirely distinct identity: sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, sometimes youthful, sometimes old. By turns murderer, beggar, company chairman, monstrous creature, worker, family man.

Simon C (fr) wrote: Yet more wobbly "found footage" of loud Americans screaming 'Oh My God' at eachother repeatedly. How novel.

Hayley K (ru) wrote: Even fans of the series will have a hard time getting through this one. What got me the most was how ethnocentric and disrespectful this film was to other cultures. What is empowering for women in one culture is not necessarily so in another. Pull your head out of your ass King.

Brad S (au) wrote: A real slog of a film, not unlike last year's Birdman. Thankfully there's some relief at the 2 hour mark with catharsis from the build-up of the story. Innaritu has talent and he uses many cinematic techniques, but none of that trickery can get get past a poor script with little plot, uninteresting characters and a lack of energy. There are a few moments along the way that I connected with, but there's just so much detritus to sift through. Can't say I'll ever watch this dark, gritty and desperate story ever again. Once in a lifetime is enough punishment.

Andrew R (mx) wrote: Vin Diesel gives a good performance in Find Me Guilty where we find ourselves rooting for a group of mafia members being trialed. Diesel's character decides to defend himself. He uses his personality and personal knowledge in his and his family and friends favor. The trial takes almost two years and over these two years the jury get to know Diesel and friends as normal people. Good acting and good script. Could have been a little deeper. Also the message sent is if you have a good personality and crack jokes, you can get away with crimes?

Ola G (mx) wrote: James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickock (Jeff Bridges), famed lawman and gunman of the Old West, is haunted by his past and his reputation. After years of being on the move, he has settled down in Deadwood, South Dakota. Wild Bill has gotten older, his ghosts appears everywhere, he is losing his eyesight and he has taken a fondness for opium. The only one that really shows love and affection for him is Calamity Jane (Ellen Barkin). Suddenly a young man named Jack McCall shows up in Deadwood, accusing Bill for abandoning his mother and destroying her life. McCall has sworn to kill him, so it is time for Wild Bill to not only confront McCall, but as well to confront himself. "Wild Bill" is not bad, but it still lacks something. I reckon the structure Walter Hill has used with all these flashbacks in the beginning is ok to establish Wild Bills character, but they are just not powerful enough. They are not grasping you in a proper way. In general the movie floats around with no real lows and no real highs and the acting is not entirely 100%. Except for Jeff Bridges whom I believe is on top here as Wild Bill. A great performance from Mr. Bridges. Walter Hill has made much better movies than "Wild Bill", but you can still digest it. And "Wild Bill" Hickock is without no doubt a truly intriguing character and person.

Aditya M (kr) wrote: A melancholy yet optimistic look at the aftermath of Iran's devastating 1990 earthquake. The acting is so naturalistic it almost lends the film a documentary air, and the director masterfully uses the fractured Iranian landscape as a silent narrator.

John G (fr) wrote: A somewhat fictionalized account of Robert Stroud, the inmate known as the Birdman of Alcatraz, this is an excellent film starring Burt Lancaster and Karl Malden. Lancaster's portrayal of Stroud is amazing - he juggles both hardened criminal (and I would propose borderline sociopath) and quiet genius most adeptly. Malden's role as Warden in Leavenworth and lather Alcatraz is stand-up. Telly Salvalas plays a rather enjoyable part as well. The pacing of the movie is a bit ponderous and as such, will not be enjoyable to most viewers who need constant action to stay involved in a film. (And, honestly, that's the only reason I gave it an 4 stars instead of a full 5.)
