Samantha S (mx) wrote: CBGB had significantly more potential than it delivered. First of all - the style of the movie with these lame comic drawings eluding to the Punk zine was just stupid. They also cast a lot of people who looked NOTHING like the notable people they were supposed to be playing - and that always bothers me.

Lisa C (kr) wrote: A strong film that could've been stronger if the supporting characters were just given a little more to go on. Perlman is barely in it, though his charisma is what carries what few scenes he has. His quiet intensity and endearing eyes are enough to imagine the pain of a veteran. Glover is wonderful as always and the little girl gives an exceptional and tender performance against such heavyweights. Hamilton is also not in as much as she could be. THe backstory's of her and the other vets are left out too much. Why are these vets out in the middle of nowhere to begin with? What is their relationship to each other? I give props to the director for the unconventional ending with the little girl and it is quite poignant in retrospect.
Kate C (kr) wrote: Hmmm well for starters shane west isn't punk ... that said, he doesn't do a bad job... its an interesting movie, but I doubt its really a reflection of the man or the band... just retelling their story in a commercial format *shrugs* ... which yaknow is pretty anti-punk :/

Gunilla A (fr) wrote: Quite good accept fr the role the US plays... saviour of the world... as they want to see themselves, which is not always true. But on the other hand, I would probably be this patriotic if I was American.

Trent R (gb) wrote: Huston & Harris are great as sides-of-a-coin enemies. Surprised to see this was PG, what with all of the frank killing for survival as well as brief depiction of peyote use and mention of cannibalism. Sound quality is crap. Ending is appropriate, yet a surprise. Double feature it with The Naked Prey.
Jerry H (jp) wrote: I love anything and everything Dark Shadows but even the most hard core Dark Shadows fan will tell you that this could have been much better. Painter Quentin Collins and his wife move back to the old Collinwood mansion and before you can say "Dark Shadows is a Dan Curtis Production" Quentin is being haunted by the ghost of Angelique, the beautiful and mesmerizing Lara Parker, who was hung as a witch some 200 years ago. Kate Jackson is Quebtin's wife and John Karlen and Nancy Barrett play their friend and next door neighbors. The brilliant Grayson Hall is also on hand as the maid. The film was released after the series was cancelled and rumor has it, and I have the script, the films original running time was roughly 129 mins. Mgm wanted to release the on a double bill with House Of Dark Shadows and demanded 39 mins be cut from the film (in 3 days). So if it seems that most of the film is hard to follow and plotlines are started just to be completely dropped your completely right. David Selby was one of Dark Shadows most popular characters but this film just doesn't give himanything to do. The cast is all uniformly fine with Lara parker a standout as the beautiful witch Angelique. The settings and photography are also good but the films script makes no sense. People have been talking for years about a compolete restoration, and a lot of the cut footage has been found, but alas with no sound. So I guess we'll just have to stick to our old vhs copies for the time being until something better comes along. Rated GP. MGM.
Art S (br) wrote: What strange artefact is this? What arcane language of symbols and signals is being directed at me, the humble viewer? I find myself totally befuddled but in awe of the majestic imagery created as so many sequential still lives purporting to tell the life history of an Armenian poet (Sayat Nova himself). He was born, he grew up, he fell in love, he entered a monastery, he died. However, not a word of dialogue is spoken and the soundtrack instead buzzes with middle eastern sounds and we can read a few scant phrases of his poetry. Supposedly, those with knowledge of Ukrainian, Georgian, and Armenian cultures and history can readily decode the mystical and religious messages on display (for example, the pomegranates apparently seep their red juice into a puddle the shape of the former Armenian state) - and these were enough to cause much political trouble for Parajanov in the U. S. S. R. (so much so that the film was cut upon release). However, the average modern viewer will probably just get hypnotized, as I did.
Michael S (ru) wrote: How bad is this movie? At one point Pacino's character says "It took him 88 minutes to hack my sister to bits," and I could not stop laughing. It's a parade of awfulness: the acting, the plotting, the dialogue, the ending, Pacino's hair... even the camera angles.
Phoebe S (it) wrote: I adore most of this movie, but after the REALLY exciting action scenes finished, it kinda left me bored in the end.
