(au) wrote: A very interesting feminist parable that touches on gender roles and how they can influence perception in many professional industries. The performances here are strong, as both Fitzgerald and Davis do so much work with simple facial movements. Meanwhile, the juxtaposition between Davis's bellowing strong performance and Fitzgerald's wilting flower is fascinating to watch. Additionally, the editing is impressive, with jarring transitions that keep the audience on the edge of their seats and allows the film to burrow in the audiences' heads quickly. So while the third act can drag a bit at times, this film remains an absolute must-see.

Once you watch 6 Bullets, you may look at it as a Taken copycat due to its subject matter, but this one actually surprised me a little because it is actually quite good. JCVD shows some good emotion during a few scenes, but it's the action we want to see and Van Damme is involved in some cool fight scenes, but unfortunately our hero is not involved as much as is earlier films. All in all, this is a solid B movie that I enjoyed and I am sure Van Damme fans will enjoy it too.

Make no mistake, she still is able to tell really ribald jokes while coming off as cute, but the musical numbers are all disappointing, and the film has a really random feel to it that I didn't care for. Definitely worth watching on Netflix, but The Sarah Silverman program is more in tune with her voice.
(fr) wrote: Meh, was ok. Nothing amazing. I bought it from a 2nd hand book store in Florida for about 3 so no great loss. I'm hoping the extras will be a bit better. Kevin Smiths, Bruce Campbells & Stan Lees cameos were all good. Shame they didn't use them for the whole movie. Oh, and the guy who did all the filming in the movie with the long hair, he was cool too. Worth watching with an open mind. Really only for comic book nerds.

(fr) wrote: As far as detective stories go, this movie is definitely good. Yet in other aspects it suffered less than perfect writing and plot structure. Acting quality however saved the day in the end.Denzel Washington is a big deal in this movie, since his role and portray of the Doug Carlin is the reason this movie is worth watching. With the support of Paula Patton, acting excellently as well, Washington provides us with a character you can root for. You really want him to be the last man standing and this is why this movie is good. The plot has a few holes, and the idea on which the story is constructed is very interesting, on the one hand, yet lacking in depth on the other. It would be much enjoyable for both drama fans as well as thrill seekers, if it was better written.Though the scientific background for the idea in the movie is virtually non-existent, even in the futuristic fiction form, is not very realistic this movie still manages to be interesting for science geeks. The story also addresses the concept of Dj vu in a fun way, providing a unique theory to what really causes it. As a core idea it is fun to ponder on, yet I wished there was a cleverer and direct reference in the movie to that subject. The detective of the aspect is done best. There is mystery almost to the very end and the surprising plot twists are actually well fashioned. A movie that is described as mystery adventure has to live up to certain standards and in this aspect the writers did a good job.Regardless of the disadvantage in the plot I still consider it to be a good movie. In the end of the day we come to the cinema to be entertained, and this movie defiantly does the job in that field. I genuinely enjoyed it. So the verdict here is B+.
