(au) wrote: Voice acting, animation and score are all on point. You can really tell how far DCU animation has come and the fight choreography is testament to that. The movements nearly can rival motion capture. It's animated choreography but the fighting is very convincing. Good drama as is always needed in Batman stories. The film did a great job introducing this lesser known story arc to those who haven't had the chance to read the graphic novel that inspired it.

Any comforting dreams he might have had are ruined by the rude awakening of a scandal involving himself, Stirling Rogers(Rupert Graves) and The Bridge Foundation. Plus, Beasley would desperately like to know where Johnny Worricker(Bill Nighy) is and not in a friendly way. Making that harder is Worricker and Margot Tyrrell(Helena Bonham Carter) making the most out of their Eurail passes. In trying to wrap up the Johnny Worricker trilogy, writer-director David Hare takes the wrong approach with "Salting the Battlefield" by relying too much on past continuity, especially involving scandals and conspiracy and not enough effort in creating a stand alone story for this installment. That leads to an awkward mix of intrigue and chase through the first half of the movie which is nowhere near as good or fun as "Hopscotch" before becoming a more personal and compelling story for the second. What matters in any case are the always welcome Judy Davis, Olivia Williams and Felicity Jones also being in the cast this time around.

(it) wrote: Boring. Ridiculous. Melodramatic. Jumps from scene to scene with no real explanation why. The acting? All over the place. I'd suggest watching an actual noir film than this pretender. At least then you'd get a coherent story and good acting.
(it) wrote: Fuck's sake, where to start with this one? This film is pretty terrible, trying to tap into the burgeoning reality TV market with a tour of the Myer's home, where (big surprise) the real Michael Myers is waiting for anyone to wander in and then all hell breaks lose. It's bad. And why the fuck does Busta Rhymes talk to himself through the whole movie? He's yammering constantly, and when there's no one around, he TALKS TO HIMSELF. It's amazingly stupid.Pass/rental at best, if you wanna make fun of it, because there's a lot to poke fun at.

(au) wrote: The director spends too much time trying to film everything, but the story. All this wasted film creates poor pacing and mild confusion.
(es) wrote: Completely boring, and I didn't need it to be historical, but at least period-correct might have been nice. With the horrible venacular thrown in, and the stupid plot cliches (especially Viola) I simply don't see how this movie got so much critical acclaim?
(jp) wrote: Some pretty unappealing characters, but well acted.
