How to Steal a Million

A woman must steal a statue from a Paris museum to help conceal her father's art forgeries.

Nicole's father, a legendary art collector, lends his prized Cellini Venus to a prestigious Paris museum. Unfortunately, the Venus was *not* sculpted by Cellini but by Nicole's grandfather. (Her father is a forger as well, but his specialty is paintings.) Before tests can be done which would prove the Venus a fake, Nicole enlists the services of "society burglar" Simon Demott to steal the million dollar statue. . Bill T (au) wrote: I was totally surprised at this movie. Was not expecting to enjoy it this much, but the rise and fall of Ricky Bobby was fitfully funny. Will Farrell is usually hit and miss, but he's supported quite well by Reilly and Cohen, who could have taken over this movie if they wanted. But its all Farrell's movie, and he's hilarious.

Rosco B (es) wrote: Along with the later 'Hana-Bi', 'Sonatine' possibly marks Kitano's zenith as a master of violent yet somehow meditative gangland drama with a strong undercurrent of existentialism. The film is gripping and uncompromising in its action, yet enjoys its most captivating, blissful moments as the gang enjoys an impromptu beach holiday. In particular, a playful battle with fireworks and a staged sumo scrap to mimic a table-top game provide the most idiosyncratic, indelible images. But, of course, you can never get too comfortable when 'Beat' Takeshi is at the helm...

Allan C (br) wrote: Campy cult classic about deranged model owner, Rory Calhoun, kidnapping travelers to plant in his ?garden? and then sell as meat to unsuspecting townsfolk. The filmmakers wisely made the decision to make the film a black comedy instead of trying to make a serious horror film. The garden scenes of Calhoun planting people, burying them up to their neck, and then the many scenes that follow of him tending the garden, with near rows of heads in the died like some macabre cabbage patch are pretty funny in a twisted way. Unfortunately, the film does start to drag after awhile, mostly because the story doesn?t really introduce any new elements except for a rather dumb story involving a beautiful blond who is rescued by Calhoun and begins a reft between him and his creep sister. With photography by Thomas Del Ruth (?Stand by Me?), in his feature debut, the film has a slick, polished look to it. You?ve also got Wolfman Jack and John Ratzenberger is small roles, which all adds up to a pretty entertaining, though very silly, horror film.
