(nl) wrote: This film is woefully inaccurate and has wildly missed its mark in its attempt to capture gaming culture. The film starts off by showcasing the rivalry that is now more popular than ever between online games. Gone are the days of one man sat in his room, bashing his joystick on his own. Now said joystick basher has the chance to test his wits against other like-minded people across the globe. Even better than that, there are now gangs/clans that games can join up with in order to take down other clans via the joys of the worldwide web. The concept of the film is quite nice in principle, but the execution is sloppy. The film takes elements from films such as Fanboys, Detroit Rock City, Role Models, Sex Drive and the aforementioned The King of Kong documentary, yet it fails to live up to any of those. Flat, hollow, lifeless and unfulfilled are just some words to throw at Noobz. I was really hoping for a lot more from this film, yet I was massively disappointed. It's not without its charms, it's just that they're few and far between. Four friends hit the road to LA to compete in the Cyberbowl Video Game Championship, but will they be able to compete with the worst hangovers of their lives?

Sometimes however the director decides to show us some aspects of the story that franky is of no use. The story will still movie you and some of the camera work reminds me of Werner Herzog's documentaries. Very nicely done.

Other scenes seemed like straight-up action sequences. Cameron Diaz acted like she was in a comedy while Tom Cruise couldn't seem to decide whether to play it straight or for laughs. I think this is primarily a fault in direction more than in acting. The pacing and timing were uneven. Cruise and Diaz never really managed to create the chemistry that would make their relationship believable. The plot had multiple twists just for the sake of extending the story, which was too long for this type of film, whatever it was.

The story moves at a sluggish pace and often I wasn't even sure what the story was. I'm still not actually. Could work very well if cut down to a 10 to 20 minute long short film because it has some great visual moments. But if you want entertainment, I recommend just watching their "Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" music video instead.

(fr) wrote: This is the worst musical ever, it has no real plot and the leads have no chemistry, it drags along too far with pointless scenes, what makes it a little better is the one liners from Gene Kelly's friend.

(mx) wrote: Honestly, I enjoyed the movie immensely. Was it slow moving? Yes, but somehow I was still kept engaged. it'd hard for any movie that has these two actors in it to be boring. Tom Hardy is brilliant per usual. The story line is interesting and you're going to get frustrated when watching it. There are several characters that truly piss you off. The end is a completely suprise, but a refreshing one. Watch it. Watch it all. it's worth it.

The thinly-veiled allusions to Hiroshima were removed for obvious reasons, but the strangest move was tacking on a bunch of inserts with Raymond Burr playing a visiting journalist (Most of his scenes involve him asking various people to interpret the undubbed and unsubtitled footage his scenes are haphazardly spliced with). For decades, this cut of Godzilla was the only version available to Western audiences. With the DVD release of the movie's original 1954 Japanese cut, the Americanized take can be properly downgraded to the status of "odd historical curio".
