Set in 1926 with many cast members playing their Grandparents it is well acted and gripping throughout. The story is told wonderfully well and is a joy for all ages. The main characters are come across as being real and the performances are excellent given that the actors had no previous experience. The people from TWS(Theatre Workshop Scotland) have done a remarkable job. All of the sets were made by volunteers. I believe that it will be shown on BBC Scotland at some point but the big screen is always better than the small one, in my opinion.Watch out for it and go see it.
Tim M (it) wrote: Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill have incredible chemistry in "Moneyball," a movie about how great Billy Beane is. Pitt is his usual dynamic self and the supporting cast do the job just fine. The two flaws about this movie are the pacing and a few inaccuracies. The mistakes I can get over. It is, after all a dramatized version of what happened in real life. The pacing and the endless worship of Beane took this movie from a 10 to about an 8.7. Make no mistake this is one of the finest baseball movies of all-time.If you're a baseball fan this is a must see, and even if you're not this is the kind of movie that could turn you to be interested in the sport in the same way "Sideways" made people interested about wine.
Lester Y (mx) wrote: incredibly ruthless, bleak, and emotionally taxing and seriously one of the best movies you'll ever see. the glacial pace works in its favor because every moment is so intense and watchable that a 20 minute scene with a static camera seems shorter than it actually is. actually pretty relieved that it's every bit as good as i remembered it six years ago.
Marisa R (au) wrote: I thought the beginning was very promising; the photography of rural India plus the mesmerizing carnatic music had a lot of potential. But only Shabana Azmi lived up to her usual high standards of acting. Everyone else was pretty bad; the 'modern' music was very low quality, and their understanding of the music world is quite flawed. As if in 2005 a professional musician will use a battery small boom box to listen to his music... it's like portraying a professional photographer succeeding with a disposable camera. The young actress had the longest roots and no acting skills. The classical music was awesome.
