James H (jp) wrote: I didn't bother to read any reviews for this one before watching it. In fact, I didn't even go looking for it, it just happened to appear in my Netflix suggestions one day. I added it to my queue on a whim, and I must say, that I was pretty impressed. The reviews I read after seeing it were rather negative, but that's not my take on this little indie comedy. Routh stars as Scott. Scott recently broke up with his girlfriend, and lost his roommate to a job in another country. He begins the search to replace both, and enter the rest of the cast. What we soon learn is that not everything is always as great as it appears to be. Still, it may seem rather obvious what happens next as the movie plays on, but I found the manner in which it was handled to be pretty darn entertaining. I haven't had too much exposure to Routh's acting abilities aside from Superman Returns, and so I was pleasantly surprised to see him give this comedy a shot. Jesse Bradford tends to be good in almost anything he does, albeit in a somewhat annoying manner sometimes. Jennifer Morrison is top notch, and her role in this simple made me love her more. Then, we come to Sophia Bush. An actress who is beautiful with a raspy voice that simply polarizes her audience. You will either hate her or love her, right off the bat. I honestly believe that she is underrated and not nearly utilized enough in Hollywood today. Aside from One Tree Hill, she has been in only a small handful of films, only two of which I've actually seen. Still, I contend that the part of the populous that is not put off by her would really like to see more of her, and this film is a good reason for that. She gets a chance to spread her acting wings a bit and show off some of that comedic talent we have only gotten a glimpse of before in other situations. Here, she lets her freak flag fly and does it well. She sells the character as crazy, but in that way that she doesn't know it is crazy to act like she does and that everyone else is weird for not being like her. I loved it. More importantly, I bought it. The film is a little raunchy, just a little, at times. Nonetheless, it is a good story with some good writing and humor in just the places. Some reviews complain that it is too long or too dry, and what I say is poppycock. Frankly, I say that it works as it is, enjoy it, and watch out for the tentacle porn.

What you get with 'American Zombie' is a good little low budget movie that starts off with a lot of humour and slowly gets darker as it progresses. It completely changes tone in the last 30 minutes, and becomes more of a traditional movie, which does detract a little. The idea of walking and talking zombies will not be to everyone's taste, but I found it a refreshing change that was handled incredibly well. All in all, a fun little movie, and if you are looking for a different take on the tired zombie genre, then you should definately check it out.

Dan B (ag) wrote: Next Friday is the sequel to the hilarious Friday. This doesn't quite live up to the first but still stands out as it's own. It has a few good laughs but nothing that strong. Memorable lines come from this that will make you repeat quite a few times. It lacks of a great plot and just is another stoner sit around film. The movie uses a lot of scenes to waste time and not build onto anything. It's not the best sequel but it has some funny scenes and memorable lines that may make me come back to this one day.

Paul M (de) wrote: Not to much to this film really. A few tired scare tactics and special effects litter this film with a lot of possibility but not enough umpfh to push it any further. A small plot twist or two and a decent cast are the only things keeping this film afloat. But like the ship that its modeled after in the next coming year this film will most likely be forgot and become a ghost all in itself.

Ridiculous film has Cameron Mitchell as the captain of a cruise liner that sets sail from California to a Far East island that is home to a burial ground of disgraced martial artists and inhabited by a bizarre sect of cannibalistic monks who raise the dead warriors from their graves to fight again. Japan understandably bypassed this island on its World War II invasion tour.
