I just finally saw it, and it turns bad, and boring really quickly. In the end it just leaves you depressed and with a bad taste in your mouth.

Rise of an Empire tries to make it's mark by trying to hard to be as great as the first. It is a film that cannot stand alone and will always need to stand on the shoulders of 300 in order to be remembered at all. Still I do like blood and stuff so two stars for effort.

Mr D (jp) wrote: A great comedy from the Louis de Funs golden age. The biggest problem is that the movie is too slow.

Brian B (br) wrote: Top billed stars Bela Lugosi and Lionel Atwill are consigned to relatively minor supporting roles. There's not much to Atwill's role at all, and he vanishes from the story about half-way through, and Lugosi is once again given The movie is a minor Universal horror/mystery, but it does deliver some stylish flourishes and the large cast is very good. There's very little padding or wasted space. The clever use of sound is memorable; the croaking frogs in the vicinity become quiet whenever the murderer is around. The devise is used sparingly, but very effectively.
