Adrian Z (it) wrote: Remarkably vivid account of the creation of BBC's iconic Doctor Who TV series in the mid-sixties, and it's rocky path to and through production, partly due to William Hartnell's (David Bradley) tetchy disposition. You won't need to know much, if anything, about Doctor Who to enjoy this story, as it works on many more levels than just nostalgia. Bradley provides a sensitive portrayal of Hartnell, an over-the-hill actor, whose addictions and attitudes are reflective of a void the show gradually begins to fill for him. Jessica Raine is also solid as producer Verity Lambert, a woman tasked with a man's job at a time when it went against the norm, providing the fodder for an irresistible underdog story.

Mikeyy M (es) wrote: By far Mark Walbergs greatest performance, this is a emotional, gritty and goory movie with an outstanding screen play with good shots, not such a fan of the slow motion but I admire that they made a true story a decent film

Anna B (es) wrote: I don't really know what to think of this. I felt like I didn't know what was happening for most its length, but I did enjoy it to an extent. I dunno. Probably requires a rewatch.I did re-watch it, like three years later, and the plot made a lot more sense this time (actually not sure why I had so much trouble with it the first time) so I was able to pay more attention to the great dialogue and characters. I also noticed more problems than I remembered, such as the terrible sound mix and score, and the weirdly celebratory, kinda juvenile depiction of violence (Finney's big scene is nothing but "How badass is this awesome old gangster?") so my score ended up staying the same.
