As the film progresses, it becomes more apparent what is happening, and - while it does deflate a bit of the psychology, it does ramp up on the creep factor.. It's not a slasher horror film like the crap you'd expect in January, but more of a psychological and unsettling horror film on par with The Babadook, The Conjuring, or even The Shining. Not to say this film is as good as those: There are some flaws here and there, including an abrupt or just unsatisfying resolution, but it's still a Netflix film worthy of your time.

Although the plot is a little wobbly-wobbly in places, the film more than makes up for it with glorious animation, a hilarious voice performance from Hugh Grant and a vast collection of diverse jokes. Through in a Flight of the Conchords number and you have yourself one delightful family outing.
