Harry W (au) wrote: Although featuring fairly good acting, Good action considering the time of the film and an original screenplay as well as Steve McQueen and good cinematography, the general lack of stimulis and ridiculously slow pacing as well as the thin plot refrain from letting Hell Is For Heroes hold itself together as a movie and just becomes a series of black and white shootouts.

Cool20 M (br) wrote: I had been hoping for a faithful film adaptation of the story for decades. This was not it. It's not even the same story. While I full understand that no movie can follow the book precisely and certain dramatic license must be allowed, this movie rewrites the story to the point it is better to have used a different name. The fabrication of entire characters and the near omission of others is cringeworthy at best. The battle scene gets lost in it's own cgi spectacle and mawkish romance. The battle itself seems to end without our knowing and we never got any closure of the majority of the characters involved. Thorin dies and Bilbo with Gandalf are back to the shire 30 seconds later. The inclusion of legolas would have been a brilliant cameo (and chronistically plausible) but the character is given center stage in a series of laughable videogame like scenes. What a waste!
