I wish others who thought this was just a goofy survival movie could understand the true meaning as it's a very moving and powerful one. It's different and new and you should try it.

There are three returning characters, none of which I ever really liked (especially the short old lady whose voice sounds like she's 7). Most of the new characters I didn't mind, except Dr.Seaton, who I really just hated.

The voiceover is pretty unhelpful and dated, tending towards the pretentious and patronising. However at its best it is an interesting discourse of the differences (or not) between cultures, the differences (or not) between time and place.

(nl) wrote: Samurai Rebellion is a film about a man who is pushed to the brink by his superiors. His son falls in love with a woman he is made to marry and the lord who gave her to him wants her back. The son wants her back and the man played by Toshiro Mifune will stop at nothing to get her back. Simple plot, more depth in the themes. The film is basically about corruption of values by societal elites, the rejuvinating power of love and the hypocrisies caused by codes of honor. It is a very well acted film, directed by Koboyashi with a lot of passion and skill. It combines its themes with exciting action sequences and interesting drama. Overall it is a great film that has a lot going for it.
