Ethan P (au) wrote: Out of the Furnace was as carnal and crude as you'd expect and even though, I felt Christian Bale's pain for the loss of his brother, this film didn't make me care. There is not enough story or character development here to make it a great movie. It was exciting and engaging, but also very basic.

Hugh J (fr) wrote: An extremely low-budget flick, which managed to entertain and provide a few laughs. The performances are pretty damn good and I ended up liking pretty much every single one of the main cast members. The problem is with the story. It's not that great of a premise and the execution wasn't able to make it any better. Thank God, I'm a big fan of most of the cast since they really save the picture. Plus, the DVD is worth getting solely based on the fact that the commentary is one of the funniest I have ever heard. Nothing like Kevin Smith spending the majority of an hour making boner jokes at the expense of the only cast member not with them for the record. Classic.

Paul Z (jp) wrote: While it showcases what is definitely Matt Dillon's best performance, this early personal triumph for Van Sant takes us so deeply into its dog-eared, fly-by-night world that we feel its texture well after it's over. Keep an eye peeled for Bill Burroughs as an old junkie dropping some mighty prophetic lines.

Michael T (nl) wrote: The Harry Palmer film with the biggest budget and one of the first films directed by the uneven Ken Russell. Oskar Homolka's funny Russian general is back and Caine's Palmer is also joined by Karl Malden as a corrupt opportunist and Ed Begley (Sr.) as a right-wing fanatic who wants to invade and liberate the Soviet Union. The "million dollar brain" in question is Begley's super computer which was science fiction in 1967. Added into the plot are a series of murders, a beautiful double-agent, and the theft of biological materials from her majesty's germ warfare labs. Very cool picture.
