(nl) wrote: Great fun, although it plays out more like a video game than a traditional movie, which may bother some people but I love video games so that's not problematic for me. Richard Dawson does a great job here playing a real slimeball here.
(ag) wrote: cheesy, predictable, kinda brassy and of course doesn't diminish my disgust of the Superman..
(nl) wrote: The Turin Horse moves through six days time at a largo pace; the subject is burdensome. The shots are set up and progress very well. The film has a very somber and naturalistic aesthetic. If you can enjoy 2001, Tarkovsky's films, or nature documentaries then you may have the patience for this as well.

Story for some reason felt less mysterious and wondrous than the book. The big reveals were just kinda shown, rather than showcased. Overall more like a series of good-looking scenes with no discernible relation and then some exciting parts and then an ending...
(mx) wrote: So fun! I felt like I was watching a dramatic Spanish soap opera. Great music and costumes. Good acting... (and a little over-acting, but hey, that's Bollywood!) The dude in this movie had six fingers and it creeped me out a little bit.

(jp) wrote: Live Flesh sounds like it would be a good film, with the lives of five characters affected by the firing of a single bullet. Victor harasses a one night stand, and when two police officers arrive from the warning gunshot, a police detective is shot and crippled. Victor is jailed, Elena marries the cripple (now wheelchair Olympian), and the detective's partner's wife is now having an affair with Victor. There's a lot going on here in the movie, but it doesn't really amount to much and the ending is on the weak side. The affairs themselves feel forced just to fit the story, and the characters do not feel organic in their actions.

(gb) wrote: Here's a film I want to love but just don't. I like it just fine ... but it's the kind of film that takes a subtext that exists in hundreds of sci-fi films and raises it to the level of text in a rather blatant and awkward fashion. I don't find it's political themes to be clever, but kind of crude and obvious I have similar problems with the film's dialogue. As an action film, I like the first act, but the film drags in the middle and I find it difficult to get re-engaged for the climax.
