If You Are the One 2
A sequel to one of China's biggest box office hits, the wry romantic comedy "Fei Cheng Wu Rao 2" ("If You Are the One 2") — the first Chinese release to open in its homeland and North America on the same day — continues the odd-couple courtship saga of wealthy, middle-aged retiree Qin Fen (Ge You) and serious-minded young air hostess Xiaoxiao (Shu Qi).After an amusing prelude in which Qin presides over a lavish divorce ceremony for an amicably splitting married couple, he and Xiaoxiao decide to address their own relationship barriers — her youth and beauty, his cynical, childish sense of humor — by entering into a trial marriage while on a trip to the country's tropical southeast.

(ru) wrote: Good thriller directed by the Colombian director Simon Brand, better known for directing many musical videos for A-list artists. To have included important actors, this movie costed very little, and the colombian actress Amparo Grisales, very well known in Colombia, has just a bit part as a bartender. Hope Brand directs other productions in Hollywood soon.

A little predictable at times, the lead character X makes several cynical observations of love and people but still learns a valuable lesson about himself by the end. I thought his statements on the annoying cultural stereotypes were sarcastic but true--things we all think when looking at others in a crowd. The supporting character of Joey stole the scenes he was in even though his acting skills are very green. A well-made film with interesting characters and an amusing plot, fans of Queer as Folk and Secret Diary of a Call Girl will enjoy it. (I wonder if they shared a screenwriter--the cynicism of X is very similar to Brian Kinney.)

(gb) wrote: Exactly ONE genuinely creepy moment in the whole film. Typical, low, low, low-budget 80's horror movie. Notable only for the fact that Linda Blair and David Hasselhoff(?!?!?) were actually in this film together. Hasselhoff's presence is particularly surprising on two fronts: 1. He's the best "actor" in the whole cast... 2. He was already flying high as Knight Rider at the time... and should have known better than to star in this clunker. A curiosity at best...

I like the idea of the story and it had some potential, but they had to ruin it by adding a love story and civil rights story. Monty works for the government in the 30's and their about to build a dam and flood the Tennessee Valley. This is for the sake of progress and everyone has agreed to move except for stubborn Jo Van Fleet and it's Monty's job to get her out. That would be a fine story, but throw in a strange love story with the beautiful Lee Remick and town folk upset because blacks and whites are getting the same pay is too much for one movie. At times this film shines, but goes off subject too many times. It looks great, good acting, and has one of the strangest fight scenes I have ever seen.

Based on a true story, it plays like "Death of a Salesman" meets "Goodfellas" and features Pacino's last truly great performance. Depp is amazing as well, and I feel either he or Pacino could have taken home an Oscar, yet neither was even nominated. Great film, seek it out!
