I like Christian Slater too, but I haven't liked a lot of stuff he's been in lately. I was a little surprised that Gary Oldman would do such a low budget film. But I've seen him in worse (Red Riding Hood). I can only assume he does movies like these for fun. The story is about four or five (I can't remember) Elvis impersonaters, some Cowboys and Indians, and a lethal Blond all on the hunt for a tribal mask that was stolen from the Indian casino during a poker game. You also have some shady sheriffs and a rancher thrown into the mix as well. Its entertaining if nothing else. But it's nothing I would see again."

Joseph C (kr) wrote: This is an example of a slow drama that works well for its genre. The film builds tension by slowly but gradually unraveling the meaning of two key events within its narrative. All this together I think to help create a film that along with the reactions of the character themselves creates a realist view, that has good sense of mystery. The almost comic and twisted performance by Rhys Ifans I think really helps add to the film in many different ways.

David Ray G (us) wrote: It took me a while to find this movie, but it was so worth it. Simplicity sometimes is all you need, indeed. A true, human movie about a friendship and a love relationship between a young boy and a soldier. It offers so many and deep emotions, like you're sitting back watching the lives of real people who suffer and love and plummet and fall and rise up again. Independent cinema will always exceed in many ways from every other movie big companies make -because of its ability to produce movies that don't care about standards or budgets or box offices. A movie with a magical musical that covers beautifully the scenery, the performances, the silent yet satisfying open ending. One of a kind.

blueprintsrecords2 (fr) wrote: A wonderful film. It was an early staple on cable so in addition to seeing "Gregory's Girl" in the theater I have also had the pleasure numerous viewings on tv. The sweet pain of adolescence and first love are handled with an almost impossibly light and innocent touch. The Scottish town where the story takes place is more Brigadoon than Camden, NJ. Take that Carmine Polito! Stop reading this and watch the film already.
