(kr) wrote: Irandaam Ulagam (IU) bears a very unique yet simple idea of love. When you love someone sincerely, even if the person leaves you, you will always be able to live with them, be it here or in an alternate universe. To put it short, loving a person sincerely makes love itself becomes your destiny, regardless of the person you love. Although IU had so many flaws in the making, Selvaraghavan's brilliant and novel concept of love is inarguably astounding! For IU had perfect execution, audiences would have had the chance of experiencing one of the best love stories ever told in Kollywood's history. Oh well, I guess the concept itself is ahead-of-time making it hard to be understood and digested.

This is the story of a man who finally begins to recognize the choices he should have made. Perhaps too late, perhaps not. Some fine, often understated, performances.

(de) wrote: Great movie by Takashi Miike. A bit different from his other films. Visually very impressive: fresh and plain, yet complicated, suggesting the same feeling of uncertainness that the plot and the camera work conveyed: it's a story about youth, struggles and (moral) agency. P.S.: I think the current plot synopsis is quite bad...For someone wanting to know what this movie is about: you should try reading a different synopsis.
(es) wrote: For a messed up kinda story, this movie had a peaceful tone to it. Somewhat simple overall, it was still all very well done. About a man played by Billy Bob Thorton who comes home from prison to his wife who is psychologically unstable due to the loss of their baby many years ago. Somehow they find peace in a very indirect way.

The movie is fun while addressing all the common identity crises. Homosexuality, shyness, self-doubt, insecurity and achievement. My favourite scene is in the first year when the class breaks into an ad hoc jam session in the cafeteria. It is this scene that sets the stage for what role each character will play and most importantly the relentless energy that is what makes this movie so great!

(de) wrote: Minor but magnificent classic, a good old-fashioned thriller with odd touches, a bit like early Hitchcock with moral integrity. Conrad Veidt is both sinister and sympathetic as the patriotic German U-boot commander sent to spy on the British fleet in Orkney in 1915; Valerie Hobson is cool and gorgeous as his contact. They are a great double act, romantic and gently comical. The cast also includes Sebastian Shaw, Darth Vader hisself, and a number of classic English comic turns. The clergyman with the gramaphone is particularly funny.
