John M (us) wrote: It's simple in story and the cast may be too big for how much it wants to deal with but Wes Anderson's style is what makes the film as touching and as hilarious as it is consistently. Whether it be his Folk song slow-motion, montages or witty one-liners, it really never has a dull moment. Perhaps too cute compared to some of his weirder and more honest endeavors, a still very memorable film.
Teddy V (us) wrote: Why was Steven Seagal in this movie for like seven and half minutes? Because unlike Kurt Russell, Seagal can spot a shit script a mile away? Then explain ... all of Seagal's other movies. How the fuck does this have a 63% rating? I guess because dumb people like to watch shit blow up.

What's with James Bond and skiing by the way? No more please. Does Melina (Carole Bouquet) have a moustache shadow or is that just me. Lynn-Holly Johnson as Bibi is one of this film's highlights. Ending with humour is becoming a trend.
Cody C (ru) wrote: For hardcore fans of the genre only. The story is shit, the script is bad, the editing is a mess. Visually it's pretty awesome, especially the final shoot out, but overall this a turkey. A better introduction to 60's Japanese gangster films would be 'Pleasures of the Flesh'.

Richard N (ag) wrote: The plot of Serpico is based around a true story dealing with corruption, bribes and kick-backs within the NYPD which far from being a few isolated instances seems to have been the norm at least in the 70's. The whole sleazy structure is threatened by Frank Serpico who as an uncorrupted cop finds himself shunned by his venal colleagues and marginalized by the very organization he works for for threatening their nefarious activities and illicit cash flows.Serpico takes a bullet during a drugs bust which almost finishes him, but rather than assist a fellow officer his colleagues leave him to die a slow painful death yet miraculously for him he survives, much to the undoubted chagrin of the department. In breaking the unwritten code of silence and complicity in their corrupt activities Serpico made himself a target, a figure of derision even outright hostility, one they would have preferred to quietly disappear. It ably makes the point that unaccountable authority corrupts absolutely, blurring the distinction between criminal and law enforcement, the so called good guys turning out to be equally rotten as those they're supposed to be investigating. Themes that still resonate today. Pacino gives one of his finest stand-out performances here and literally carries this film single-handed, quite an achievement. A certified classic of 70's cinema.
