In the Land of Morning Calm

The film shows long-lost images of the early 20th-century Korean Peninsula, before the Korean War separated the North and South. The images include women spinning on cotton wheels, families making traditional tteok (rice cakes), a look at Dongsomun (Seoul’s ancient East Gate), which was destroyed just years later, and missionary activities in what is now North Korean territory. The footage was once stored in a German monastery, but later the Nazi government, which sided with Japan in World War II, tried to confiscate it because some of it could be interpreted as espousing a critical view toward the Japanese occupational regime in Korea. Fortunately, a monk saved the film, hiding it behind a stone wall in the basement before he died during the war. The film was rediscovered in 1975 during a renovation. . In the Land of Morning Calm torrent reviews

Marcia P (us) wrote: The Wrong Turn franchise is getting pretty predictable, and the cast is getting as bad as the storyline. I didn't like it at all

Matt M (au) wrote: not a very good movie the actors were pretty big for this movie to be something great but in the end it wasnt good the story was bad and the husband -wife relationship was bad so all and all not very good

Bruno L (fr) wrote: Excellent. I was impressed how this movie did not become more popular. Gary Sinese was excellent, as was Mare Winningham as the gentile southern wife. Angelina Jolie showed promise of what was to come in her career. There is superb acting in this well written and directed intensely interesting biography of George Wallace, governor of Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement. It's a 3 hour movie that picks up pace as it continues, so when it ends you actually feel like you want more. Extraordinary!

Dexter H (ru) wrote: Not nearly as good as advertised.

nefnie l (us) wrote: Obviously, I love Carole Lombard, but I sometimes find her roles or the way she acts them a little over the top, ie Twentieth Century and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. This role was more subdued and definitely heart-felt. I loved the relationship between Lombard and Robson and their characters. The story is reminiscent of Camille - wrong side of the tracks girl in love with an heir who could lose everything by marrying her - but not quite as well. It is still worth viewing.

Jill K (jp) wrote: Some really horrible acting moments but the story kept me interested.

Dan B (gb) wrote: There's something missing if Will Ferrell doesn't make you laugh in this. The last third is all a bit shoehorned but I can forgive this in a nice feel good family Xmas flick with laughs aplenty.

Eric V (it) wrote: Five stories are intertwined in what is essentially a horror anthology. The stories range from interesting to vague. And why this particular area of the world seems to be the center of evil and why some characters are not human is never explained. The concept of the film is interesting, but the lack of reasoning does not keep me involved.
