Walter M (ag) wrote: To aid her brittle emotional state, Angelique(Isabelle Carre) attends support meetings where she promptly faints. The job hunt goes much better when she quickly lands a job at a chocolate factory. But it is not the one she wanted, as Jean-Rene(Benoit Poelvoorde), the boss, feels she would ironically be perfect as a sales rep. While she valiantly tries to make the best out of a difficult situation, Jean-Rene is himself seeing a psychologist who advises him to take action. "Romantics Anonymous" is a reminder that they do not quite make romantic comedies like they used to and for good reason, considering that there are now rules against sexual harassment in the workplace. But in this instance, Jean-Rene is even more of a mess than Angelique, so why not, I suppose? And the movie, overall quite harmless as it is, does have its certain charms, not the least of which is the eminently likable Isabelle Carre.

This installment picks up some 15 years after the events of December 31st in the year 2000, which has since been named Bloody New Years Eve. 150,000 people died that night and Friend has placed the blame on Kenji. Kanna is now in school where her teachers insist that Kenji is a terrorist but she knows the truth. With this being the middle part of the trilogy, you'd expect it to just bridge the gap, but 20th Century Boys Chapter 2: The Last Hope still lives up to it's predessesor's brilliance. With Kanna taking the role of main protagonist, new characters thrown in and some new twists to the story. This second chapter is just as entertaining. With the same great acting and direction as the first, Chapter 2 does not falter where so many sequels do

Chris G (br) wrote: Overlong and not well connected 100% of the time, it succeeds by using it's stellar cast to it's advantage while providing one of the strangest and out of left field endings of all time.

Often a film reuniting excessive acting talent (DiCaprio, Winslett, Bates) fails due to the clashing of personalities at a high level; in this case the casting is superb, with brilliant performances also by David Harbour and Michael Shannon. This is the second time I've seen it, it only gets better.
