(de) wrote: This film angered me so much that it actually caused me to create a Rotten Tomatoes account to review it. Who decided that filming this was a good idea? For one, The Sacrament is completely devoid of creativity. This IS the story of Jonestown. This actually happened. There are numerous documentaries that have been made about Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple. Why rehash this under the guise of fiction? The narrative did not hint at or claim to gain inspiration from the Jonestown massacre: it merely regurgitated it. That being said, I would have been okay with ripping off this idea if the characters were at least somewhat aware of the congruency. We are meant to believe that three Vice reporters are unaware that they're experiencing a nearly identical situation to what happened roughly 40 years ago. From my understanding, Vice reporters are assumed to be intellectual, cultured, learned people. So why was Jim Jones or the Peoples Temple never mentioned in the film? At least one of the characters should have referenced Jim Jones after meeting Father and realizing the nature of Eden Parish. The only redeeming quality of this film are the aesthetics; it was shot and edited well (as far as found footage films are concerned.) If you're interested in the idea of religious cults, skip this and just watch any of the documentaries about the real Jonestown. Those actually inform people about an insane historic event, rather than pretending to be an original work of fiction.

(nl) wrote: saw series are the best movies I've seen ever.. I'm not talking about the horror as I don't see it's scaring at all, I meant the story itself, the plot and the ending which make you see the movie in a different eye I can't stop repeating all the series again and again and again

(au) wrote: This is a beautiful film, with wonderfully nuanced characters, that offers an interesting look into the life and faith of an Orthodox couple. The acting is incredible and the love between Moshe and Mali is heart-wrenchingly real, helped by the fact that Shuli Rand and Michal Bat-Sheva Rand are actually married. The story isn?t what I would call ?riveting? but the film isn?t negatively affected by the simplicity of the story, in fact it is the simplicity that lets the viewer understand the characters in such an intimate way. Ushpizin is well worth watching to get a glimpse into the life that the non-Orthodox are rarely privy to and to see some really fantastic acting.

(br) wrote: I've read the book. Watching this movie, I was impressed at how close it hews to the author's vision. No wonder, since the author is one of the co-producers. Very well acted; good story about how racism colors perceptions of 'the other'.
(us) wrote: Horrible movie. Barely any violence or werewolves in the movie. They save all the lame little violence for the last 12 min. of the movie!
(mx) wrote: Not very exciting. No surprise due to it's similarity to 8 1/2.
(gb) wrote: The Man from Colorado is a disappointing film. It is about two friends who return home after their discharge from the army after the Civil War. Glenn Ford and William Holden give horrible performances. The screenplay is badly written. Henry Levin did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture.
(ca) wrote: Could be worth a viewing, would like to see it sometime in the future.
(es) wrote: Dead Man is not as cool as it wants to be but I have to admit I liked it. At times it is cheesy but at times the laid back, surreal vibe works. Also, I am a sucker for black-and-white photography. Better to not have high hopes when queueing this one, but rather sometime give it a try and perhaps be pleasantly surprised.
