Into Great Silence

Into Great Silence (German: Die Große Stille) is a documentary film directed by Philip Gröning that was first released in 2005. It is an intimate portrayal of the everyday lives of Carthusian monks of the Grande Chartreuse, high in the French Alps (Chartreuse Mountains). The idea for the film was proposed to the monks in 1984, but the Carthusians said they wanted time to think about it. The Carthusians finally contacted Gröning 16 years later to say they were now willing to permit Gröning to shoot the movie, if he was still interested.

Into Great Silence torrent reviews

Michael M (br) wrote: File this under "W" for weird. I like Kristen Bell but this movie is kind of depressing. It's another "dealing with your 30's" kind of film but it's kind of dark and a little twisted but not altogether terrible. I definitely would not call it a comedy.

Eric R (es) wrote: A raw, gritty prison film that follows a young man, Rune, who arrives at one of Denmark's most notorious prisons. Rune is a skinny, young man that is at a severe disadvantage among all the violent offenders. He is alone, and tries to fine his place in this hierarchy between the prisoners. The film uses a lot of hand held to create this gritty, naturalistic look. Its really nothing groundbreaking visually but it works for the storytelling. Its really a film more about harsh uncompromising atmosphere of prison where loyalty is almost non-existent and brutal animals are everywhere. An easy comparison to this film would be Un Prophete, which is superio film R is more streamlined but lacks the artistic merits and dramatic tension which Un Prophete was able to achieve. R still has qualities of merit on its own; its just nothing incredibly groundbreaking.

Phil D (us) wrote: A average seagal movie this 1 where he takes on the chinese mafia signal handed 1 slap there down only 4 die hard seagal fans this 1.

Andy F (gb) wrote: I finally found this movie at a half price books in Cedar Rapids.

Doug D (nl) wrote: Very haunting and very deep for a Disney Movie.

David L (kr) wrote: With hartfelt ending, amazing imagery, solid acting, remarkable details and approach that is both informative and moving, Old Yeller may have some narrative problems and it is sometimes uneven, but it is a Disney production that is heightened to great heights thanks to beautiful Technicolor and art direction as well as ending that goes from heartbreaking to uplifting territory swiftly and deftly. This is a classic for a reason and it is quite possibly the quientessential dog film.

Parmesh D (es) wrote: A realistic and intense cinematic experience, a must watch film!

Farah R (nl) wrote: Exceeded expectations. The film revolves around an average heist but delves deeper into dirty cops and drug lords which elevates the dull plot line. Vaughn's performance was also impressive, unlike his previous comedic roles.
