Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport torrent reviews

Allan C (au) wrote: Incredibly bland and doggedly formulaic action film. A solid cast is squandered in a film that leaps at the chance to jump from clich to clich at every opportunity. There is an innocuous charm to the first part of the film where Samuel L. Jackson puts together his SWAT team (of nicely diverse personalities, genders, ethnicities, etc.). Still, even that is nothing you haven't already seen in you average A-Team pilot episode, except for a block bust budget and a cast that includes Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, LL Cool J, Josh Charles, Jeremy Renner Olivier Martinez and plenty of character actors you'll recognize, like Reed Diamond and Reg E. Cathey. However, the film really goes into automatic pilot mode once the main story kicks in about international criminal Martinez being captured and then offering millions of dollars to whoever will help free him. The SWAT team must transport him, but loads of shootout and echoes of "The Gauntlet" this film become really dull despise a fast pace and non[stop action. Ace TV director Clark Johnson (The Shield) really lets down here, though at least I'll say the action is well done and not annoying like you typical Miachel Bay or Jerry Bruckheimer film. The real culprit here is the script, which had no character development and no original ideas, which was surprisingly co-written by the talented David Ayer (Training Day) and David McKenna (American History X). Maybe if I'd seen the original series I may have cared more, but I suspect this film version of the 70s TV show was in name only. Elliot Goldenthal, one of my favorite film composers, did provide a solid score.

Dan S (kr) wrote: Ambitious, spectacularly designed, and a great case of Russian history - all this makes this film great, even if it does feel like an excuse for Sokurov to mess around a bit

Shawn W (jp) wrote: Aspiring female pop group find trouble when their car breaks down in the desert and wander to a ghost town hideout of a biker gang. I did enjoy seeing the girls helping themselves to the gang's beer to help prevent "dehydration".

Kris W (kr) wrote: "They already have a lot in common. Her husband is sleeping with his wife." "Love at first sight. Consequences to follow." Legal secretary Maria (Isabella Rossellini) is married to car salesman Tom CSI's William Petersen). Dance teacher Larry (Ted Danson) is married to the striking Tish (Sea Young). Larry's uncle is marrying Maria's mother. Tom and Tish meet at the wedding and waste no time taking more than a test drive in his BMW. So when Maria and Larry become acquainted later in the day they already have a common interest. But more than that, they find they like each other. A lot. Also features good performances from Lloyd Bridges (Airplane) as Danson's father, and Keith Coogan (Don't Tell Mom, The Babysitter's Dead), who share the best scene in the movie. Maria Hardy: Well, maybe Chloe deserves more than a bargain, Tom. [strokes his cheek, then turns to Larry] Maria Hardy: Larry Kozinski, I would love to dance with you. Share this quote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vince: [ater Edie reluctantly accepts his dinner invitation] You've made an old man very happy! Edie: You're not so old. Vince: Yeah, I know, and I'm not so happy. Share this quote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vince: [a the cemetery, declining to join the funeral group] At my age, you don't want to get too close to an open grave. Share this quote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mitch: [at the funeral] So, Grandpa, how come you didn't come to the church? Vince: God makes me nervous when you get him indoors - besides, I don't like to see people in their coffins. They always look so much smaller without their spirits. Share this quote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maria Hardy: How many jobs did you have? Larry: I don't know. A lot. I change every two or three years. If it looks like I might be successful. I move on. Maria Hardy: You don't want to be successful? Larry: I want to be happy.
