Sushi Girl ultimately has little depth beneath its astonishing surface, but it is a well-made (if derivative) and entertaining film nonetheless. Sushi girl features an amazing cast of cult actors: Tony Todd (Candyman), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Michael Biehn (Terminator and Aliens)< Danny Trejo, Sonny Chiba, etc. A rather blatant Tarantino rip-off, Sushi Girl is still an entertaining piece of gangster/exploitation cinema that brings the style and the brutality you would expect from a Tarantino clone

Worth checking out, apparently it is being remade. I thought the script and character actions made sense which is often a problem in movies for me. makes you think and entertains at the same time. . . I quite enjoyed this film

it's not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good. . . Overloaded by Caucasians, the incredibly likable Undercover Brother battles 'the Man' in this mildly entertaining jab at cultural stereotypes and features plenty of snappy lines and objectionable gags

The story is slow in some parts, and leaps are taken to move it along, but overall it is a good movie and I recommend it. The characters are interesting and attractive. In the Gay world, it is often, boy has sex with boy, then finds out there is more to the boy and falls in love. From my experiences, this movie is very accurate. How many more times can I sit through boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy wins back girl. Mainstream movies tend to be the same story over and over again. In the category of gay movies, this one is pretty good

Are they heroic or just opportunistic? Is it heroism to simply do what is the right thing to do when faced with circumstances that call for protest? Perhaps not, but there remains an impetus here that is focused entirely on facilitating the end of bloodshed, a termination of senseless violence that does not, cannot, recognize the will of those people who are caught in the crosshairs and give their lives to a struggle they can scarcely comprehend. These women express outwardly an open, demonstrative desire to affect real and lasting change that clearly other means cannot remedy. This film celebrates a plea for peace in the region, and by extension, throughout the world. The film does a fine job setting up the conditions under which the majority of the population was forced to endure for a great many years that preceded Taylor?s reign. We come away with a belief that these demonstrations actually work in altering the landscape into something less rife with violence and fear-mongering. We are left with a very strong impression regarding the great potential for simple protests in impacting outrageous political circumstances. Just how influential were these women in initiating a regime change that leads triumphantly to the rise to power of the first ever female African President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf? The film would make it out that they were directly responsible for the removal of Taylor but these situations are often far more complex than a simple documentary film, however well constructed and ably told, can possibly reveal. The question remains. He flees to Nigeria only to eventually resign as president in 2003. The film points out that the talks ultimately fail but that Charles Taylor is accused of crimes against humanity and other charges. They refuse to move and are threatened with arrest but they remain firm. Ultimately the women hold a sit-down protest at the Presidential palace in Ghana as negotiations are finally attempted between the two sides of the conflict. They argue that women ought to deny their husbands sex until the conflict is settled. Eventually there are hundreds of women all wearing white t-shirts, itself an open protestation directed at the corrupt regime. She?s affable and driven in manner that is exceedingly rare and courageous. One of their leaders is a woman named Leymah Gbowee. They weather extreme hot and hold their position perfectly unwilling to give up their fight for calm and peace. They gather and wait hoping to gain the President?s ear but are ultimately rebuffed. As the civil war continued its unstable pace, women both Muslim and Christian unite in a singular force and begin their quiet protest. We see them in groups being carted around in trucks, their special rifles gleaming, and a blank, expressionless look in their eyes. These young boys are given drugs to lower their inhibitions making them more malleable killing machines. The film documents images that are deeply unsettling including children being recruited or kidnapped into bearing arms and fighting in the war. and slowly but methodically they began to gather forces in a quest to impact the government of Liberia in finding a viable solution toward ending the bitter civil war between the embattled government of President Charles Taylor and insurgents such as Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD). These are mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, nieces, etc. The film suggests that grassroots resistence can make an impact on facts on the ground and that peoples need not mask their voices when faced with various agonies that immediately effect the course of their lives. This film is their story and it is both terrifying and uplifting. Instead of sitting idly by and witnessing the continuous killing and maiming of their people with no respite, they organized. In Liberia, a country haunted by conflict, strife, and a wholesale disregard for the well being of its population, the women were getting fed up. It?s the same old bloody story that articulates an essential characteristic of the human animal. 1990's. Pray the Devil Back to Helldirected by Gini RetickerWar and famine

Interesting, bittersweet drama about an Israeli human resources manager who does the right thing by taking one of their former Romanian employee's body back to her homeland for burial

It'd be great to have the option of watching it with a first-rate dubbing job, but really it's a small price to pay. My biggest complaint? I don't speak Korean and have to read subtitles. This is Snatch meets Indiana Jones meets Road Warrior with a splash of Jackie Chan slapstick dressed up as a Western well enough to poke a little light-hearted fun at Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood. Don't want another action movie, rather have a comedy? You're still in luck, because this movie is often laugh-out-loud funny. Don't like Westerns? No problem, because this is just as well an action-thriller. Otherwise you're in luck. If you generally don't well tolerate violence in movies, then this probably isn't your kind of movie. This in an extremely smart movie that demands multiple viewings. It will surely not be the last. This is the first movie of Kim Ji-woon's that I've seen

A movie for everyone 16 and up. You can sit down and enjoy this with your significant other. Truly one of the greatest movies to come from HK that isn't purely action in the physical sense. A heart wrenching love story and a thrilling battle between thieves
