(mx) wrote: Revenge story. Some evil rich boy loses cherish girl because of what someone said and set a complex plot of revenge. Complex and long-term since it took 15 years to set it up correctly. Pretty good acting. Outlandish la Quentin Tarantino. Real-looking blood. Not likely to happen in real life, although similarly themed revenges are probably common.

Yes, the music is glorious, and the plot urges the listener to "taste" it in small portions that make one wish for more (I for one will be seeking out the music played within). But other than that, this film reminds me of typical television crime twaddle, bathed in better cinematography. Mika is such an obvious villain--she practically drools with sinister intent throughout--that it reminds me of nothing so much as children's theatre in which the kids are meant to shout out loud 'Watch out for the wolf!" Skip this. Buy the Liszt CD instead.

(ru) wrote: It will undoubtedly disappoint anybody expecting a musical on par with The Sound of Music or Mary Poppins. This role didn't seem to suit Julie Andrews, and the movie was more adult-oriented than I would have expected. I will say that it was a unique and zany film, but the songs didn't really impress me. Has plenty of his two defining characteristics - deliberate boredom, making the film a kind of endurance test at times, and deadpan, camp and sometimes hilarious dialogue. A must-see for fans of the Factory scene (and you have to see it at a cinema for the full split-screen effect). The scenes with Mary Woronov laying into her co-stars for forgetting their lines are amazing - she might just be my new favourite person ever.
(us) wrote: The WWII patriotism is preachy, and the film is pretty melodramatic, but I like it anyway. What do you expect, it was 1944. The back story to this film is rather interesting considering what was going on between soon to be divorced couple Robert Walker and Jennifer Jones.
(de) wrote: A peculiar and really fun old film about a group of circus freaks and their interactions. Ive read that it is catalogued as a horror movie, but I dont agree at all. Its more of a comedy with strange looking but really human characters that make it entertaining

One could get an entire BA from studying this film alone - editing, cinematography, acting, sound, music, advertising, production, it has it all.!Look for:- Greatest Introductory Scene ever by Omar Sharif- "The Match" cut- Losing sight of Lawrence the man and the rise of the image of L of Arabia

(de) wrote: I really liked the premise of seeing how a community is affected by a serial killer on the loose, although given that the scenes of killer being "mad" were superfluous cliche. Similarly, while the central 4 characters were well drawn and performed, the others were simple stereotypes. Oh, and it's too long.
