It's not a bad movie, but the way this story is told infuriates me to no end. It may be a nice movie to watch after a semi life-changing event has occurred in your own life but it's nothing more than navel-gazing on the director/writer/actor Evan Glodell's part...which I guess is the whole point of the mumblecore genre. If only there were more to this story than what it ended up being.

Iowa B (nl) wrote: What this film lacks in storytelling, more than makes up for in style and actually you can get at its very heart, by looking at its style. "Performance" does not follow the traditional storytelling because it doesn't need it. The story is just an "accidental" requirement(they needed a protagonist to match certain criteria, and they came up with this guy who is doing etcetc). In this case, the story involves a gangster of sorts, actually a debt collector may be a more suitable term, who loves what he's doing, even if sometimes he's loving it too much(that's what his boss said). Yet, the film is not about gangster and while it tackles topics such as economy or business, it does not really go near them. This film is basically about its title. And if you bear this in mind, you may find the frantic approach to be more than appropriate.
