It's Better to Jump

There is a centuries-old seawall in the ancient port of Akka, located on Israel's northern coast. Today, Akka is a modern city inhabited by Muslims, Christians, Jews, and Baha'i, but its history goes all the way back to rule of the Egyptian Pharaohs. Young people dare to stand atop the 40' one-meter thick block structure and risk their fate by jumping into the roiling sea. This perilous tradition has continued for many generations, and has become a rite of passage for the children of Akka. "It's Better to Jump" is about the ancient walled city of Akka as it undergoes harsh economic pressures and vast social change. The film focuses on the aspirations and concerns of the Palestinian inhabitants who call the Old City home.

Oscar B (au) wrote: This documetary does work well enough. It takes us through the variety of forms that Yoga takes, from the athletic to the contemplative, to the downright silly laughter yoga. The plot of a smoking, overly skeptical subject being artificially sent in search of yoga enlightenment never had a hope of succeeding in enlightening someone who is not seeking it, who is in fact resistent to it. However, the plot does provide a storyline to parade the different yoga practices and theories to the viewer, and to help us see and appreciate them, from the most commercialized versions to the most spiritual. From watching this documentary I've learnt that, as I suspected, yoga does not have to be about enlightenment any more than marathon running is. I certainly feel more enlightened about Yoga after watching this film.

Dommage !

Farah R (it) wrote: Suffragette proves worthwhile in showcasing a historically monumental movement yet the story feels filtered and by the end, incomplete. Carey Mulligan was perfectly fitting for her role in this period drama as was the rest of the spirited ensemble around her whose performances are highly praised but the deficiencies in the script render it underwhelming for the great cause at hand.
