Budi G (jp) wrote: For me this movie is the perfect Sunday movie. To describe/review this movie in detail is difficult. It's better in terms of quality than most of the recent American gay indie (Shelter, Kiss the bride etc). However this movie falls into a "grey" area and I can see why gay activists will loathe this movie. The story, although highly unlikely that it will happen in real life (Western countries), it's still a possibilty (probably much greater in Asia since gay men are still being forced into marriage to produce children). The pros of this movie: It takes a lot of guts to make this kind of movie (I've never seen one with this kind of topic). I like the ending, it's realistic. The movie doesn't look/feel cheap due to the beautiful backdrop(Vancouver island). The AMAZING SOUNDTRACK....I will get my hands of Ben Sigston's CD. The cast is mesmerizing esp. Dan Payne...the cons: they should hire some other actor to play the role of Chase. It's a guilty pleasure (DILF fantasy film), this movie is for gay audience only. I won't show it to any of my girlfriends....anyway it is good that all characters are full of humanity and love...if it happens in real life it will be a total mess. Overall it's an enjoyable movie. Think of it as a Lifetime movie for gay men. PS: judging is not loving....I just want to say that. :p

Maksim B (mx) wrote: So bad that it has turned into a cool and legendary 90s comedy, Half-Baked is a fine example of how to make a poor, but ultimately cool movie. Goofy, shallow and definitely sharpless (if compared to similarly themed comedies from nowadays), this is a movie that appeals hugely to viewers who had their pre-teen or teen years in the 90s. Loaded with heavy nostalgia it will certainly destroy a sufficient amount of brain-cells if you see it, but it would also make you laugh out most of the time. The movie tells the story of 4 childhood friends, whose love for weed has kept them together for years. When one of them is sent to prison, the Thurgood Jenkins (Dave Chappelle), Brian (Jim Breuer) and Scarface (Guillermo Diaz) need to find a way to collect the amount necessary for Kenny's (Harland Williams) release. The best idea they come up with is to start selling marijuana which drags them into series of funny events.Needless to say, when it comes to plot, story-telling and even technical aspects such as editing, Half-Baked is totally poor delivery. It is so poor and never taking itself seriously that it is truly reaching a cult level. Add-up the marijuana-centered topic and the ridiculously bad acting of the cast and you will get something outrageously funny. Towards the second half and the end, Tamra Davis' delivery loses a serious part of its funny elements, as it becomes more preachy and mushy, but nevertheless the overall enjoyment of watching something that bad and absurd remains until the end.In conclusion, Half-Baked is one of the examples of movies which are so bad, that they actually receive a cult status due to their specific topic or right moment of release. If you have grown-up in the 90s and find even a small similarity with some of characters or events (if you know what I mean ;) ) you will certainly enjoy it!

These critics who should probably stop watching comedies or just realize they've seen too many comedy movies to really find this funny and that most people haven't seen as many comedies as they have! Yes, there was some stupid stuff, but there's something stupid in EVERY comedy! So sue them!

David M (it) wrote: i didnt really expect anything from this movie. but surprisingly this was actually a pretty decent horror movie for what it is. the actors did an overall nice job at capturing that claustrophobic feeling. there was a nice little twist at the end so i guess it keeps you watching, and its a brief 64 minutes so its not like a waste of your life or anything
